Met Office really excelling with their explanatory graphics. Clearly 2 months rainfall for parts of Scotland & NE England in a couple of days could be catastrophic. But 50-100% of monthly rainfall for much of England may prove problematic too

Its been awful here in the Bristol area, heavy heavy rain for hours now, roads flooded. Is this whats heading north?

When I first saw the map, I presumed, being it was brown, that it was a water company sewage release monitoring map!!!

England and Wales need significant rainfall to end the drought, with groundwater reservoir levels continuing to decline. Above-average rainfall is needed until April next year to come out of drought, with the Environment Agency saying around 120% of typical rainfall is required over the next seven months for all areas to recover. The Environment Agency said that despite some wet weather during the first half of September, almost three-quarters of England remains in drought, following an exceptionally dry spring and summer, as well as a succession of heatwaves.
