very cool, i didn't know they used a laser to melt the steel always thought they did it the way they do with plastic 3-d printing

Yeah melt a layer, add powder, melt that add another layer of powder, repeat, it’s really cool. I remember hearing about this type of additive manufacturing as a kid and thought about how on earth it’s supposed to be possible to make high-precision components without the steel solidifying in the tubes or melting the structure of the already printed steel, then I saw this and was like “huh, Neat!”

Hek yea! I love 3D printing, there’s no end to the applications tbh. Plastics, metals, clay work, concrete, and even fabric, parts, housing, wearables, fashion, toys, etc etc etc. I’ve been watching an artist on FB that’s built a clay pottery 3D printer and even a 3D home concrete company.

Additive manufacturing in general still is a massiv underestimated technology. But still - instead of integrating 3D printing ("the physical world") - companies now do anything to integrate AI to solve problems which most of the time did not exist before in the first place.
