During the call, he noticed several red flags—most notably that the support representative appeared to be a Chinese national working out of China. Recognizing the potential national security concern, Mr. Paulin immediately began recording the call and asked the representative to confirm her name and location, which she did, stating she was employed by Microsoft in China.
