Southampton FC. Watch pre-season training at most pro clubs and you won’t see anything groundbreaking or out of this world. There are no secrets or shortcuts in football. It’s about doing the basics at a very high level, consistently.

My fav 9v9 system? The "Triangle System" (1-3-4-1): Defending Shape: 🔹 Back 3 in triangle (keeper + 2 defenders) 🔹 Midfield 4 compress space 🔹 Striker drops to help press Attacking Shape: 🔹 Wide players provide width 🔹 Central midfielders create overloads 🔹 Striker makes clever runs behind Key Teaching Points: ✅ Think in triangles, not lines ✅ Everyone defends, everyone attacks ✅ Space is a shared responsibility ✅ Communication is constant This system teaches 11v11 principles in a manageable 9v9 format, perfect for player development! 🌟 My 360TFT Game Model stage that covers 9v9 (Master the Opponent) is now live

🚨QUICK TIP - When planning your sessions, consider breaking topics into 4 week block, each looking at a different element of that block This gives your players consistency of an overall theme, while varying the learning 👍

Ajax training this week featured this Combination Passing Practice: Up Back Through Variation Practice Description This technical combination practice is designed to develop passing quality, positional awareness, timing of movement and communication. The outside players will always complete two passes around the outside before transferring the ball through the central area (Adapt as it progresses). As the ball enters the middle, the two central players combine using an up back through pattern. Both central players must continually assess the movement of the ball, adjust their positioning and prepare early to receive. Play is limited to one or two touches to encourage efficient ball circulation. Following the central combination, the player who sets the ball rotates into the outside position. The player who initially passes into the central area moves inside to continue the sequence. Coaching Points • Maintain concentration throughout the practice • Scan regularly and adjust position as the ball travels • Communicate early and clearly • Create appropriate angles and distances of support • Receive with an open body position where possible • Play firm, accurate passes with the correct weight • Set the ball into the path of the supporting player • Time movements to maintain the rhythm of the sequence • Rotate positions quickly and efficiently • Maintain technical quality while working at a high tempo Save this post and follow us for more.
