Ajax training this week featured this Combination Passing Practice: Up Back Through Variation Practice Description This technical combination practice is designed to develop passing quality, positional awareness, timing of movement and communication. The outside players will always complete two passes around the outside before transferring the ball through the central area (Adapt as it progresses). As the ball enters the middle, the two central players combine using an up back through pattern. Both central players must continually assess the movement of the ball, adjust their positioning and prepare early to receive. Play is limited to one or two touches to encourage efficient ball circulation. Following the central combination, the player who sets the ball rotates into the outside position. The player who initially passes into the central area moves inside to continue the sequence. Coaching Points • Maintain concentration throughout the practice • Scan regularly and adjust position as the ball travels • Communicate early and clearly • Create appropriate angles and distances of support • Receive with an open body position where possible • Play firm, accurate passes with the correct weight • Set the ball into the path of the supporting player • Time movements to maintain the rhythm of the sequence • Rotate positions quickly and efficiently • Maintain technical quality while working at a high tempo Save this post and follow us for more. ⚽️ CHELSEA FC POSITIONAL 4v4v4 Under Xabi Alonso at the weekend. A positional possession practice from Chelsea Football Club, designed to develop one of the most important principles in possession: creating effective angles of support around the ball. 🔵 PRACTICE DETAIL When a team has possession, players adopt a designated positional structure within each zone. Players are positioned on either side of the area, along the end line and with one central player operating inside each zone. This structure challenges players to recognize how their positioning can create passing lines, support the player on the ball and provide opportunities to play through, around or beyond pressure. Out of possession players are free to press anywhere within the practice area. The focus then shifts towards compactness, communication and coordinated collective pressure. 🎯 SCORING Teams score one point by completing the required number of consecutive passes. 🧠 COACHING POINTS 🔹 Create clear angles of support around the ball 🔹 Adjust positioning as the ball moves 🔹 Scan before receiving 🔹 Receive with an open body shape where possible 🔹 Move the ball quickly to exploit available space 🔹 Press collectively and remain compact out of possession 🔹 React immediately when possession changes 💡 COACHING FOCUS The positioning of the players away from the ball has a major influence on the options available to the player in possession. The central player becomes particularly important in helping the team connect different areas, play through pressure and create additional angles around the ball. Like and save this post for more. Perfect 1v1 Drill For Finding Your LOCKDOWN Defenders! Coach LoGalbo takes you through a drill that is perfect for finding your lockdown defenders that you can rely on when the lights turn on. As Nick LoGalbo says, it's a great way to find your "Rambo" which is a defender that you can rely on to defend your opponent’s best ball handler in the full court. And, an added offensive benefit to this drill, is that it allows for offensive players to work on their ball handling in the face of defensive pressure! This 1 on 1 Contain Drill is from Nick LoGalbo's Outer Third Defense (No Middle Defense). That's why the goal of this basketball drill is to force the opponent's primary ball handlers to the outer thirds of the basketball court (and out of the middle!) as soon as they catch the ball. By doing this, it allows the defense to dictate the entry pass to one side of the floor. By keeping the ball on the outer third of the basketball court, you can overload the backside of the defense which helps control the opponents passing lanes, deters easy passes and helps eliminate the dribble drive. You can incorporate this drill every other day in practice to re-emphasize to your defenders the importance of keeping the ball handlers out of the middle of the basketball court. Instructions and Keys to the 1 on 1 Contain Drill: - Give the ball handler a cushion. This makes it easier to contain them in the outer thirds. - Chest and contest a crossover to the middle. You do not turn your body. You must beat the offensive player to the spot and turn them back to the outer thirds. - If you get beat, you sprint ahead of the ball. You do not continue shuffling. - Keep the ball in the outer thirds the entire length of the court. It does not stop after the offensive player gets past half court. - The goal of the drill is to simply keep the ball handler in the outer thirds. - The defense should focus on beating the ball to the spot and chest to contest defense. - As soon as the first group gets to halfcourt, the second group begins. - After a group makes it all the way to the opposite baseline, they switch positions and get in line to repeat the drill going the opposite direction. Coaching Tips - Once a player gets chest to contest, they must spring back to get in front of the ball. Your goal is not to be running side by side. You must get in front of the offensive player. This prevents the offensive player from getting an angle to the basket. - After running through the drill for a specified amount of time, switch directions so the offensive players must focus on using both hands as their primary dribbling hand. - It is important to mix up players rather than like positions always competing against each other, so that players get used to guarding a wide variety of positions. It forces the players to adjust defensively regarding speed and skill. - Another positive of this drill is it gives you the ability to assess who your Rambo is: players who can work the point guard up the floor.

Uzenenye!📝 Possession with purpose: You have a very competitive team here. You just have to fix the goalscoring problem. ■ We haven't lost our ability to create chances, which is important. They just come from clear repeated attacking patterns and control than just kicking the ball forward. ■ We are able to progress both wide and central. We still need to work on looking for that "better option" when we have the ball around the opposition box. ■ We create chances through good movement and passing. ■ There are moments of patience on the ball, and there are moments of continued direct attacks. We put pressure on the opposition defense persistently. The ideas are not dominant as yet, but they are clear. We are quick once we find those pockets to progress. We have those small triangles in wide areas. ■ In Central midfield, they will improve with time and a few other clear factors we need to solve. ■ We need to improve the balance in some key areas. Work on our rushed passes. Even in quick transitional moments, we sometimes rush a pass that kills the attacking momentum. You still need well-timed passes and a good selection of passes in key areas to create better scoring chances. So decision-making will forever be at the center of everything we want to achieve in the field of play. ■ Sometimes, your teammate hasn't really completed a run for you to release a pass, but we make that pass anyway. Small details. ■ Once our match sharpness and overall team chemistry improve, we will increase the quality of key actions across the field. If you don't abandon your principles to dominate and control games, you will create chances, and it won't be by luck, but it will be by design. ■ The team will find rhythm, and when results come, they will be consistent. ■ We have worked on the spaces between players to some degree, and you can see how quickly we win the ball back. There is little space for the opponent to breathe after winning the ball. Even in the Netherlands, we never sat deep, we always pressed every angle on the pitch. ■ We are aggressive, and the close proximity relationships we are building are helping us in regaining possession quickly. ■ They are not yet perfect, but we have made some progress from how tactically confused we often looked last season. We are patient this side. There is good progress in the team. I believe in teams that grow, and growth doesn't move from zero to ten. You need to be patient and build each step at a time.
