I don't know enough about game development, but are the Polygons JUST for rendering visuals? I always thought of the polygon as the base wireframe that did collision detection and things like that, so the logic of the game could work. If they are sort of using 2d images to make 3d predictions, it sounds like it would look amazing for video, but can you build a game off that if there isn't an a real 3d model underneath?

I'm sorry but the success of Elden Ring and Black Myth Wukong have already proven what gamers want in a game. Wukong is full of photoscanned polygons rendered in full detail by UE5 Nanite. The future is already here and it's not NeRF.

"the success of Mario and Sonic have already proven what gamers want in a game and it's not 3D".. 😉 The future is difficult to predict, but polygons are not the pinnacle of immersive 3d. Gameplay and storytelling will continue to be key though, no matter what.

Polygons will be around for as long time. They are useful for semantically segmenting the scene and providing temporal stability and for art directing. They just won't be rendered to the screen.

You still need polygonal entites for collisions, shadow catching, scene segmentation for fast rendering rejections and so on.

For real, who needs polygons. I tried a simple (very optimized) gaussian spat on the Quest 3, and well, it literally tricked my brain in feeling smell and touch.

Blended-NeRF: Zero-Shot Object Generation and Blending in Existing Neural Radiance Fields paper page: Editing a local region or a specific object in a 3D scene represented by a NeRF is challenging, mainly due to the implicit nature of the scene representation. Consistently blending a new realistic object into the scene adds an additional level of difficulty. We present Blended-NeRF, a robust and flexible framework for editing a specific region of interest in an existing NeRF scene, based on text prompts or image patches, along with a 3D ROI box. Our method leverages a pretrained language-image model to steer the synthesis towards a user-provided text prompt or image patch, along with a 3D MLP model initialized on an existing NeRF scene to generate the object and blend it into a specified region in the original scene. We allow local editing by localizing a 3D ROI box in the input scene, and seamlessly blend the content synthesized inside the ROI with the existing scene using a novel volumetric blending technique. To obtain natural looking and view-consistent results, we leverage existing and new geometric priors and 3D augmentations for improving the visual fidelity of the final result. We test our framework both qualitatively and quantitatively on a variety of real 3D scenes and text prompts, demonstrating realistic multi-view consistent results with much flexibility and diversity compared to the baselines. Finally, we show the applicability of our framework for several 3D editing applications, including adding new objects to a scene, removing/replacing/altering existing objects, and texture conversion.

My upcoming release of "Cinematic AI" has made me think about how bodies of work are formed. I think some are manifested and some are revealed. I think "Cinematic AI" falls into the latter category. It was not something I had a clear vision for and then created, but it was something that was revealed to me over time. I thought I saw a glimmer of it early on, but only after some time had past, could I see the body of work emerge. With a bit more context and watching great artists and how they work and think, it finally came to me that this series of 15-20 pieces that I had created could be a worthy collection to mint. AI art has been going through so many transformations from the early GAN work to Collaborative AI to now AI being widely accessible through platforms like MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, and many others. But one area that I have seen explode in recent months is cinematic AI. I distinguish this from animated AI, which has been around for a while, but cinematic AI is where the movements created by AI are getting closer to what you'd see in a movie or captured on a video camera. It still has a long way to go but it is getting more real than surreal as the technology develops. And this is where I seem to have found my groove, my home, my little corner in the artistic landscape. After Runway launched their image-to-video tool, it just blew my mind and I went down a deep rabbit hole and have created a new cinematic AI piece almost every other day for the past few months. I initially saw many of these pieces as just experiments, but with some time to reflect, I am seeing them as having the potential of being relevant pieces of artwork to mark this time in the development of AI. In some cases, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to create a similar piece again, since the tools I use are not in my control, but in the control of the AI platforms, who are constantly improving and evolving the tools. Given all of this, there is no better way to mark my place in time than on the blockchain. I truly believe that this body of work has the potential to be an important artifact of this era in AI and AI art. It is always hard to judge ones own work, but what I can do is permanently etch in time on an immutable public database saying that I created this. Only time will tell if the work has any value or is of any significance, but who created it and what was created cannot be disputed. I hope this gives you and especially collectors some perspective on the work I'll be releasing next week. I'm still very early in my artistic journey, but hopefully some of you will see promise in what I'm doing and maybe even put in a early bet on my art practice by bidding on a piece next week. 🔴 Finally! NVIDIA has finally made the code for Neuralangelo public! It has the ability to transform any video into a highly detailed 3D environment, and it's a technology related to but DIFFERENT from NeRF. 💡 Here's how it works: It takes a 2D video as input, showing an object, monument, building, landscape, etc., from various perspectives and analyzes details such as depth, size, and the shapes of objects. From this, the AI sketches an initial 3D model, similar to how an artist molds a figure. This representation is then refined to highlight more details, just as an artist would make the final touches when sculpting. The result is a 3D environment/model, perfect for use in any environment. Imagine the applications it will have for video games, cinema, virtual environments, VR, and more! 📽️🎮 💡 More details: A year ago, an article was presented on a groundbreaking technique called NVIDIA's Instant NeRF. This technique turns images into stunning 3D scenes in a short time, ideal for creating realistic models for video games and other applications. Although Instant NeRF had a lot of potential, the generated models were not perfect and often lacked detailed structures, appearing somewhat cartoonish. A year on, NVIDIA releases a new technique based on Instant NeRF, named Neuralangelo. This enhances the fidelity of surface structures. While NeRF reconstructs real objects in virtual environments from images or videos, Instant NeRF speeds up this process, and Neuralangelo further improves the quality, making the generated objects appear even more realistic when examined up close. Neuralangelo improves Instant NeRF's approach in two key ways related to the hash grid encoding technique: 1⃣ Numerical gradients have been used to compute higher-order derivatives as a smoothing operation. This optimizes the "hash grid" encoding using numerical rather than analytical gradients, providing a smoother input to the network that produces the 3D model. 2⃣ A "coarse-to-fine" optimization has been implemented in the hash grids to control different levels of detail. That is, they first focus on a smoothed version of the scene, and then refine it with more detailed updates. Well, as Arthur C. Clarke said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Jon Rahm on the LIV format: “Yeah, obviously there’s been a bit of a change. There was a lot more about LIV Golf that was attractive to me, right. Yeah, maybe the format was a set back in the past, but at the same time there’s a lot of positives to it as well. And one of the things that a lot of players kept mentioning is you don’t have a wave weather difference, where you can simply get unlucky and you’re out of contention for that tournament. It’s part of the game, I get it, but it’s something you don’t have to deal with anymore. So that part is a very nice aspect. The team is what really made it for me. Being able to be part of a team, represent a team, play for my teammates, with my teammates and against my teammates, is something that to me that has always been very, very special. When you get a victory to share, it’s always better to have a team to share it with. So it’s what was the most attractive part and when we started discussions it gets to a point where even though I’m ambitious, I’m not greedy. So there’s a give and take and the format is something that I can easily overlook, and I’m pretty sure I can learn to enjoy it, I’ll just have to get used to it, but I’m pretty sure I’ll learn to enjoy it. To be honest, the more I started thinking about it, the more I started thinking about my college days that were 3 day tournaments, 54 holes, and everybody warmed up together for the most part. "Courage is far shorter in supply than genius." - Peter Thiel "One of the challenges in writing a book about entrepreneurship or teaching a class on this is that there is sort of no formula. And I think science always starts with a number two. It starts with experiments you can repeat, things you can do over and over again. But there's sort of a sense in which every moment in the history of business, every moment in the history of technology happens only once. The next Mark Zuckerberg will not be starting a social networking company. The next Larry Page will not start a search engine. The next Bill Gates will not be starting an operating system. And so if you are trying to copy these people, you're in some sense not learning from them. And so I think one of the really big challenges in teaching or writing about entrepreneurship is what can you say about being an entrepreneur at all when the key thing is always to do something new, different, that's not precisely been done before. And so the point of departure I start with in Zero to One is a somewhat indirect approach by asking a series of contrarian questions. The business question is, what great company is nobody starting? The more intellectual version of this question is, tell me something true that very few people agree with you on. And this is a fantastic interview question. It turns out to be quite a hard question, even when people can read on the internet that you ask of everybody who comes in the door, it still is a hard question. It's one of those unusual questions where if you know it's on the test, it's still hard. And it's hard not just because we sort of think that new things require brilliance or something like that, but because it's socially difficult. If I ask you that question, if you tell me something like the education system is screwed up or our political system doesn't work very well, those are true answers, but they're not actually good answers because all of us already know them to be true. The good answers are ones that are somehow uncomfortable that the person interviewing you does not actually want to hear. And I think we live in this world where courage is in far shorter supply than genius. And so it is sort of this, it is in a sense this problem of political correctness properly understood, is this very deep, very, very broad sort of a problem."
