Might be a minute late ⏰ on posting about this…. This is straight-up corruption. Conservative MP John Brassard, Chair of the Ethics Committee, just got disturbed to learn that despite all the so-called “screening,” the CFO of Brookfield had **instant phone access** straight to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office....

This is INFURIATING. Straight-up enraging. 😡 Conservative MP Jasraj Hallen is in committee trying to get a straight answer out of Liberal MP François-Philippe Champagne on Bill C-15’s Section 12 — the clause that hands ministers (or the PM) the power to exempt ANY company, individual, or organization from almost ANY federal law or regulation… except the Criminal Code. Yes or no question, over and over: “Can the Prime Minister or a minister exempt someone from the Conflict of Interest Act?” Champagne’s response? Classic Liberal word salad, smirks, attitude, deflection, and zero answers. Same game every single time. Fact: Section 12 (amending the Red Tape Reduction Act) lets a minister issue an exemption order for up to 3 years (some analyses say it can be extended) if they decide it’s in the “public interest” for innovation/competitiveness. No parliamentary approval needed. No real oversight. Just “trust us.” And who benefits most right now? Brookfield — the same firm where PM Mark Carney still has millions in stock options and carried-interest upside from the exact climate/infrastructure policies his government is pushing. The same firm whose execs have been hauled in front of ethics committee while Carney’s “ethics screen” has more holes than Swiss cheese. This isn’t a loophole. It’s a get-out-of-ethics-free card written into law. It lets them protect their friends, their investments, their future payouts, and shield them from any conflict-of-interest fallout. I’m sick of the evasion. Sick of the gaslighting. Sick of watching them rewrite the rules so the powerful never have to play by them. Canadians deserve a straight YES or NO. Share this if you’re as pissed off as I am. Demand they kill this clause. Tag your MP. Make noise. #BillC15 #CarneyEthicsFail #Brookfield #StopTheExemptions #RuleOfLawMatters

Posting this from WKRN because Marsha Blackburn is counting on journalists not asking the RIGHT questions in following up on my story about the ethics investigation of her office last year. NO ONE is saying that she was disciplined by the Senate Ethics Committee - so she is denying a claim that no one has made. That’s because the Senate Ethics Committee has not disciplined one of their own in many, many years. Instead, when it finds wrongdoing, the Ethics Committee usually makes the senators fix the problem and promise to never do it again! Here are the right questions: If this ethics investigation was politically motivated as you claim, why not release your correspondence with the Senate Ethics Committee to prove that the committee investigated and found nothing? If you refuse to release correspondence with the Senate Ethics Committee, why should votes not assume that you are hiding something? @ There was an ethics complaint against you last year for voting for legislation from which you could profit. Will you release any correspondence with the Senate Ethics Committee about that complaint? There was an ethics complaint against you in 2021 for using your position to help an aide get out of a traffic ticket. Will you release any correspondence with the Senate Ethics Committee about that complaint? ONE MORE NOTE: No journalist should accept an interview with Marsha Blackburn under the condition that they not ask about the ethics investigation.
