Meritocracy: The Core Value That Made America Great Elon Musk: "One of the core values that made America great is being a meritocracy - as much of a meritocracy as possible - such that you get ahead as a function of your hard work and your skill. Nothing else" more than any other place on Earth... America built a system where effort and talent could actually win That's worth defending 🇺🇸

ELON: MERITOCRACY IS ONE OF AMERICA’S CORE PILLARS “There are some core pillars, core values that have, I think, made America great. One of them is being a meritocracy – as much of a meritocracy as possible. Such that you get ahead as a function of your hard work and your skill. Nothing else. Which is why I would be opposed to, for example, things like DEI. It's not like America's been purely a meritocracy, but it has been more of a meritocracy than any other place. Which I regard as good.” Source: Interview with Jordan Peterson, July 2024

A refreshing break from the usual self-flagellation and America-bashing. “America is not great” but compared to what? America is not perfect, but its willingness to recognize when it has fallen short and its insistence on holding itself to a higher moral standard set it apart. Other countries don’t even pretend to operate that way. In a single lifetime, America has delivered extraordinary progress in terms of rights protections alongside major advances in integration, innovation, and meritocracy. And what makes it uniquely powerful is its unmatched ability to attract talent from around the world, organize people effectively, and generate fairness and opportunity at scale. That kind of openness, dynamism, and genuine meritocracy remains rare even in much of Europe. So yes, America is still great.
