Pierre Trudeau tried price controls in the 70s in Canada and eventually lost his career over it "By 1978 the effects of the wage and price controls, all though not definitive, were viewed as a failure and were phased out. Within a year the anti-inflation board was dissolved. The program was generally disliked by Canadians and the government intrusion into the free market economy had many unforeseen results which created more difficulties then were solved by the program."

what does he have to say about tariffs?

@guypbenson

@guypbenson Wasn’t he also the guru for trickle-down?

@EWErickson She did not propose price controls. Offer a critique of her proposal to curb price gouging if you want, but at least start with the truth rather than a straw man lie that you then easily knock down.

@EWErickson 🎯🎯🎯

friedman responsible for middle class wage destruction and epic inflation since regan

The only point Friedman makes in all that rhetoric with the kettle and all is that prices rise when supply is short. We knew that. Price gouging is also a thing in oligopolies. And if there are shortages, maybe pricing out poor people isn't always the best way of rationing?

@Shoshana51728 A free for all on food prices is just evil. European countries who grow and sell food do fine without causing challenges for the public Food and utilities should be affordable the end

@LADco Look up what he said about tariffs
