It’s the only defense they have left - baseless name calling. I mean let’s be honest. We call them names too (I admit that I do), but the difference is that when we call them well-deserved insults, it’s followed by a logical argument as to why, and it’s done typically with pin-point accuracy. They can only go as far as negative adjectives: “You’re mean.” “You’re racist.” “You’re misogynistic.” You get the point.
