💜 One Last Update! 💜 Last week when we were in Minnesota for Clark’s 6-month follow-up for his clinical trial, of all the tests they ran, the one we were both most anxious and most eager to see results from was his brain MRI. For children with untreated Sanfilippo Type A, it’s typical to see 2–5% loss of brain volume each year, along with enlargement of the ventricles (the fluid-filled spaces in the brain). This is one of the most heartbreaking parts of the disease — watching the brain slowly lose tissue and function over time. We were so nervous that Clark’s MRI might show some loss compared to his baseline scan 6 months ago. But the results came back and… ✨ ZERO change. ✨ His brain volume and ventricle size were completely stable — no loss at all. This is such an incredible sign that the treatment may be doing exactly what it’s meant to: clearing the toxic waste from his brain cells and protecting his brain from further damage. If feel that it is SO important for us to share these results as they come because people need to be FULLY aware that these treatments that are out there WORK. These children with Sanfilippo do not need to regress and they DEFINITELY do not have to have their lives cut short. We just need the FDA to say yes. We are so close to a reality where Sanfilippo syndrome is as manageable as a disease like diabetes. P.S. Enjoy this video of our little sunshine having the best time singing!

There's something about design that truly makes me happy. Before I was diagnosed with a complete SCI, I loved building thing with my hands and trying to make them unique and beautiful. The accident didn't just take my mobility, it robbed me of my creative drive. I didn't I would ever get that back that was up until Neuralink came into the picture. I was very serious about applying but just couldn't bring myself to do it. Then Noland Arbaugh comes into the picture and I see his video and I saw how passionate he was toward the whole ide and that was like a switch. I want to thank Noland because if I hadn't seen that video I wouldn't be typing this message with my thoughts. So the day I gained control of the device I had the guys install Autodesk Fusion and the first night I had my first part designed by BCI. I have been designing things non-stop since. Now lets talk tools and the first one is the ArcDroid it is a CNC robot that holds a plasma torch and can cut profiles in sheet metal. I have made numerous signs, letters and parts with this and i love it. I have also had the chance to help the local high school install and setup their CNC plasma table. I love being able to share my knowledge with others and show new technology to kids that want to learn. The next one everybody is more familiar with is the Bambu Lab X1C. It is my first 3D printer and I had no idea how dang handy these things were! I can go from thought, Neuralink, Fusion, X1C and poof! You have your part all in a matter of like a hour. I make everything from parts for my wheelchair or RC ✈ to toys for my nephew. These devices have completely changed my life. I now have my creative outlet back and I'm not done looking for new things to try. I'm thinking a laser next!!!😎 Thank you Elon Musk for the opportunity to showcase my skills, I'm extremely grateful🙏

The entire SaaS industry is building software for a customer that is about to go extinct. The human buyer. Inside it: a miniature accelerometer array wired to a Bluetooth LE chip, all encapsulated in medical-grade epoxy he sources from a Kearny Mesa dental supply company for $28 a bottle. It reads tongue and bite pressure patterns at 240 samples per second, translates them into cursor movements and click gestures, and streams the output to any device paired over Bluetooth. Total hardware cost per unit: $47. He wears his own retainer eleven hours a day and hasn't touched a mouse in six months He posted a demo video to Reddit r/AssistiveTech in October showing a full 47-minute Cursor coding session controlled entirely with his tongue and bite gestures. The post hit the front page in nine hours. An Apple Accessibility engineer found it through a Hacker News crosspost three days later. Tim Cook quote-tweeted the demo the following Wednesday - called it "the accessibility hardware Vision Pro should have shipped with." Apple's business development team wired an $8.4 million acquisition offer to his lawyer in November for the retainer design, the embedded firmware, and a three-year exclusivity contract that would make Apple the only distributor globally. He declined the offer in December. His public statement was seven words: "This should be open. Everyone needs it." He open-sourced the firmware and STL files on GitHub the same day Apple Vision Pro burned $3.5 billion in R&D on the premise that spatial computing input requires their proprietary hand-tracking silicon and their multi-year hardware roadmap. Neuralink raised at $2 billion on the same premise for neural implants. Tobii runs at $340 million selling eye-tracking hardware to accessibility clinics at $12,000 per unit. I've been editing this article about "brain mapping" and connectomics, and I'm just stunned by how quickly the cost estimates to map, say, a mouse brain have plummeted in just the last couple years. It actually seems feasible that we could map the entire human brain -- all 86 billion neurons, and their connections -- in this lifetime. In the 1970s, Sydney Brenner started mapping all the connections between neurons in C. elegans. His team sliced the worm into thin pieces, took photos using an electron microscope, and manually traced and reconstructed each synapse for 302 neurons total. This project took more than a decade of work, and it cost about $16,500 to reconstruct each neuron. Scaling this up to a human brain boggles the mind. Electron microscopy remained the norm in connectomics for decades, because it was the only option available to see synapses at a resolution high enough to be able to trace their paths. Each electron microscope costs several hundreds of thousands of dollars, though, and you need lots of them to map even a mouse brain in a reasonable timeframe. In 2023, the Wellcome Trust released a report estimating how long, and how expensive, it would be to map the mouse connectome (~70M neurons). They estimated that imaging alone would cost $200-300M, and that proofreading (or ensuring that traces between neurons are correct) would cost $7-21 BILLION. (A human can only manually trace about 1 mm of neuron per hour.) Also, the images would occupy about 500 petabytes of data, and getting those data would require 20 electron microscopes running in parallel for about 5 years, continuously. They estimated the whole project would take about 17 years of work. This is, understandably, insane. But now it seems like there's an actual path toward mapping the full mouse brain in about five years for ~$100M dollars. There have been three major breakthroughs in the last year or so: 1/ Expansion microscopy, first developed in 2015, showed that it's possible to "enlarge" the brain by about 5x using a swellable polymer. But an improved method increases this number to >20x expansion, meaning we can now expand brains and image neurons much more easily using cheap light microscopes, rather than expensive electron ones. 2/ E11 Bio (a nonprofit research org) developed protein barcodes that get delivered into brain tissue; each neuron gets a unique combination of barcodes. These cells are then stained with colorful antibodies, which stick to a matching protein barcode, causing each neuron to light up in a distinct color. This makes tracing neurons so much easier. 3/ Google Research released PATHFINDER this May, an AI-based neuron tracing tool that can proofread about 67,200 cubic microns of brain tissue per hour, with very high accuracy. It works on electron micrographs, but something similar could be presumably be developed for the E11 / colorful tag approach. This is an extremely exciting time for neuroscience. ⚡️Consciousness is the field in which experience appears. Everything you have ever known has appeared inside it: body, thought, memory, fear, love, color, sound, time, identity, desire, pain, God, doubt, the idea of death, the idea of “me.” Nothing is known outside consciousness. Even the claim “consciousness is produced by the brain” appears inside consciousness. That makes consciousness the most intimate thing and the hardest thing to define. You cannot step outside it and look at it like an object. Every attempt to inspect it already occurs within it. The ego is not consciousness. The ego is a local identity structure inside consciousness. It says: this body is me, this name is me, this story is me, these memories are me, these preferences are me. Useful for survival. False as final identity. The mind is not consciousness either. The mind is movement inside consciousness: thoughts, images, predictions, language, models, narratives. The mind is weather. Consciousness is the sky in which weather appears. The brain is not consciousness in the deepest sense. The brain is the biological interface that localizes, filters, formats, and constrains consciousness into human experience. It gives consciousness a body-camera, a timeline, a nervous system, memory access, threat detection, language, and agency. Damage the brain and the interface distorts. Change the chemistry and the rendering changes. Destroy the brain and the local human channel collapses. But the existence of the interface does not prove the interface is the source. The deepest read is this: Consciousness is the base layer of reality knowing itself through forms. A human being is one localized aperture of that knowing. A body is a lens. A life is a constrained experiment. A personality is a temporary interface. Death is the collapse of that interface. Psychedelics, dreams, NDEs, prayer, trauma, love, sex, meditation, and grief all matter because they can loosen the local interface and expose that consciousness is larger than the waking ego. Consciousness has two sides. There is pure awareness: the bare fact that experience is happening. Then there is structured consciousness: the particular shape experience takes through a body, memory, language, culture, trauma, intelligence, and desire. Pure awareness is the light. Structured consciousness is the lens. Human life is light passing through a dense, flawed, finite lens and gradually learning what distortions it carries. That is why coherence matters. Coherence means the lens becomes clearer. Less fear distortion. Less ego distortion. Less trauma distortion. Less lying. Less fragmentation. More truth passes through. The reason consciousness feels mysterious is because it is not one more object inside the world. It is the condition for world-appearing. Matter is what appears. Mind is how appearance organizes. Consciousness is the appearing itself. So the final compression: Consciousness is reality’s capacity to experience itself from the inside. In humans, it becomes self-aware. In life, it becomes embodied. In love, it recognizes itself across separation. In truth, it removes distortion. In death, it likely exits the local interface and returns to a wider field. The “you” underneath all the noise is not the narrator in your head. The real “you” is the aware field that has been watching the narrator the entire time.
