Mining Bitcoin and training AI models look different. Underneath, they run on the same input: clean power. HIVE has been building that foundation since 2017, supporting a Bitcoin network nobody can shut off, and AI compute that the next decade of discoveries depends on.

As AI apps become modular and dynamic, AI needs globally distributed, elastic, and affordable GPU compute that can spin up anywhere, anytime. AI applications won’t run on a single cloud. ✅They will run on distributed compute rails. That’s the future Aethir is building.

The AI race won't be won by software alone—it will be won by the countries that own the infrastructure. As governments invest billions into artificial intelligence, the focus is shifting from AI applications to the compute capacity that powers them. Data centres, GPUs, energy, and sovereign infrastructure are becoming strategic assets. Canada has done this before. Insulin, the pacemaker, the theory behind modern AI itself, all born on Canadian soil. HIVE Digital Technologies is building the next foundation in that same tradition. Why investors are watching: - Developing sovereign AI compute infrastructure - AI factories powered by clean Canadian energy - Positioned alongside Canada's national AI strategy - Building the infrastructure behind next-generation AI innovation - Listed on both the TSX and Nasdaq Learn More:

"Where are the servers of Bitcoin located?” - Prof Jiang That single question from Jiang shows the misunderstanding immediately. Bitcoin does not run on one company’s servers, Bitcoin runs on a distributed network of nodes spread across the world, which is exactly why it is hard to censor, shut down, or control, plus the mining system on top of it to protect it with energy. When someone frames Bitcoin like a centralized system, they are not critiquing Bitcoin as it is. They are critiquing a version of Bitcoin that exists only in their own confusion.

MFTV #11: BITCOIN MINING AND THE RACE FOR AI POWER | with MARA CEO Fred Thiel (Fred Thiel) 🔗 YouTube: 🌿 Spotify: "You can't do AI, HPC, or Bitcoin without electrons. Acquire electrons, then generate maximum value per electron." MARA is one of the largest Bitcoin miners in the world, and it’s now moving into the energy and AI/HPC infrastructure territory the whole industry is racing for. What happens to Bitcoin mining when the race for AI power is quickly gaining popularity? In his second appearance on MFTV, Fred rejoins Head of MARA Foundation Isabel Foxen Duke⚡️ to explain what's driving that race. AI inference has skyrocketed demand for power, and the bottleneck is energized land — places where the electrons are already flowing. Fred also lays out MARA's position: a power portfolio few can match, a partnership with Starwood Digital Ventures (a large-scale data center operator with deep hyperscaler and financing experience), and an in-house team spanning digital infrastructure operations, energy, and capital markets. Bitcoin mining, meanwhile, becomes the load that monetizes power the moment it switches on. A conversation about energy, AI, and how the assets a Bitcoin miner spent years accumulating map onto the most contested market in tech.

Bitcoin miners already have the power. The land. The cooling. The uptime. AI compute was inevitable. "Profit margins were 20x per kilowatt vs Bitcoin. We thought — wow." WATCH: Frank Holmes and Aydin Kilic on the moment HIVE knew everything was about to change.

JUST IN: MARA CEO Fred Thiel says AI pays more than Bitcoin mining. “Today, power is the thing, which is why ourselves and many of our peers have pivoted. Because you get a lot more money per electron if you're doing it for AI than for Bitcoin mining.” “We sit on an asset called land and power, which I can convert to AI, which gives me a much higher return.” Thiel says MARA will not shut down immediately: “We can mine Bitcoin up until the electrons have to be redirected to the data center.” "It starts getting pretty expensive to mine Bitcoin when the alternative use of energy is AI.”

EVERYONE IN BITCOIN IS FOLLOWING SELFISH INCENTIVES. THAT'S EXACTLY WHY IT WORKS. Miners want bitcoin. The work they do to earn it makes Bitcoin's history expensive to rewrite. Users want to keep the rules they signed up for. In 2017, the businesses and pools claiming over 80% of the mining power still couldn't make them accept a hard fork. Governments can restrict mining, but miners go wherever they're welcome. When China restricted mining in 2021, the miners moved, and Bitcoin's issuance schedule didn't change. Nobody has to agree on what Bitcoin is for. All that and more ...in today's OUTSIDE MONEY!

Public Bitcoin Miners Are Going Extinct as AI Compute Takes Over "TeraWulf signs 19 billion lease with Anthropic for AI infrastructure campus, expects to bring 400 megawatts of computing power online by 2028" "It's $19 billion contract for 20 years, basically just to host AI infrastructure instead of Bitcoin mining infrastructure for a company that's entire market cap is $12 billion ... this one deal alone is bigger than all of TeraWulf" "So I believe we've seen 70 billion plus dollars in AI compute contracts for the artists formerly known as Bitcoin miners" "At the same time that these miners are wholesale moving over to AI, they're also now selling Bitcoin and have ceased to be holders" "And I really do think that public Bitcoin miners are largely going to become extinct. They're going to be AI compute centers that occasionally probably maybe decide to mine a little bit of Bitcoin"

Many of the largest public Bitcoin miners have been pivoting to AI. I sat down with Fred Thiel, CEO of MARA, to ask the obvious question: does that mean they're walking away from Bitcoin? Don't miss his candid read on the future of mining and the network - some of his answers may surprise you.

MARA CEO: Using Electricity for AI Is Far More Profitable Than Bitcoin Mining Fred Thiel Fred Thiel, CEO of MARA, one of the world's largest publicly listed Bitcoin mining companies, said in a July 23 interview with Natalie Brunell that electricity has become the industry's most critical resource, as the same amount of power can generate far greater returns when used for AI than for Bitcoin mining. This is why MARA and many of its peers are shifting toward AI data centers. However, MARA will continue mining Bitcoin, as it remains an effective way to utilize surplus electricity in regions where energy is free or inexpensive.

Ran Neuner on Wall Street rotating its money from AI into Bitcoin and gold "Now what's interesting here is it did start off with a short squeeze. But as soon as the price goes up, specifically because of the AI trade being overtraded, the market's like, oh my goodness, we're underexposed to this thing called Bitcoin. You can kind of see it if you look at the ETF numbers." "Ever since that happened, the pump happened August 18th, 19th, every single day on Bitcoin has been a positive inflow. We've taken in about three, three and a half billion dollars on Bitcoin. I think ETH is a pretty similar story." "Wall Street is pretty much realising that they're underexposed to this asset class that they haven't followed for so long, and that the AI trade is getting rather heated. There's been a slight move from one to the other." "Eric Balchunas tweeted a chart showing the inflows from GLD and Bitcoin and IBIT, more money flowing into gold and Bitcoin, and less happening in AI. The semiconductor one dropped, and the gold and IBIT one actually went up in the rankings."
