When FDA officials informed her she was done regardless, she said they made clear the order came from someone way above their pay grade. What that means for the direction of the FDA is genuinely uncertain. The MAHA agenda that came in through Trump and Kennedy at HHS had real momentum, and Hoeg was a consistent voice for scientific integrity throughout COVID and beyond. Losing that leadership at this moment, with the agency still in the middle of significant reform, leaves real questions about who takes the helm and whether the work continues.
