A British concert pianist named Paul Barton moved to Thailand in the 1990s and fell in love with elephants. For his 50th birthday in 2011, he asked his wife if he could wheel his piano into a sanctuary on the River Kwai and play for them. The sanctuary, Elephants World, takes in old and injured elephants rescued from decades of logging and tourism work. Many of them are blind. When he played the first notes, a blind bull elephant named Plara stopped eating mid-mouthful and stood completely still until the music ended. Paul has been playing for the elephants there ever since.

After being rescued by the organization Planting Peace (together with the Brady Hunter Foundation), she is now completely free. The video shows Mojay enjoying her new life: swimming, roaming in nature, and living happily and peacefully for the rest of her life 💖✨

The Following Giants sanctuary here in Thailand is putting me to work on elephant breakfast duty so it’s my honor to help feed this cute baby and his mom who was rescued from 30+ years forced labor in chains by Aaron of Planting Peace…apparently this 2-week-old baby likes his fruits/vegetables mashed up and he likes to use his body every day to do the mashing! Faraja is a very special elephant. Born in January 2012 to Fenella, an elephant from the FA family that was being researched by Elephant Family, he’s leucistic, meaning he has a partial lack of pigmentation. His skin is pale and his tail and ear hair is light in colour. When covered in mud, it can be hard to see, but the difference is there. When Fenella was speared and died in August 2012, Faraja came into our care. Coincidentally, we also raised his likely half‑brother – Jasiri – whose mother was believed killed by poachers in the same year. We hope we’ve done Fenella proud. We raised Faraja like one of our own until he was ready to return to the wild. We’re not sure how he lost his mother, but the resourceful little orphan inserted himself into the nearest group of similarly sized creatures, which is how he came to be found amongst a herd of sheep and goats. Luckily, he was in sympathetic company, and the rest is history. Today, Ndotto is 12 years old and leading a wild life in Tsavo East National Park, but he remains very connected to the family who raised him. He continues to visit us most mornings, popping by to say hello before going about his day. When our Voi team wakes up and finds a large elephant peacefully standing outside, they know exactly who it is – sweet Ndotto, enjoying a few home comforts before he’s off again. Waa! Apparently, this is a grave, and the guy died just a week ago. He was buried as if he had never existed. The man was a drunkard. He was hit by a vehicle on the road. This is a tradition among the Kabras, but I hear that most Luhyas and Luos also practice it. His burial service was held while his body was still in the mortuary. After the people went home, the elders brought his body and buried him quietly. Children and even men under 30 who had no children were not allowed to be present during the lowering of the body. Grass was planted on the grave to make it look like nothing had ever happened there. The next day, all his clothes and belongings were donated. This is done to help the community forget him and to ward off such kinds of deaths in the future.

The public has the right to know. The media's duty is to report. One of the horrible cases that is silenced in this long war is the case of the death of Dr. Adnan al-Bursh. Al Bursh is one of the best and most respected surgeons in Gaza. From the beginning of the war, he worked in several hospitals in an attempt to save as many civilians as possible who were injured by IDF shelling. He was arrested along with other medical teams and taken to detention in Sde Teyman, and then to the Ofer prison, where he was severely tortured until he died. Until the day of his death, no charges were filed against him, and he was not brought before a judge. His body is still being held in Israel, and no explanation has been given for his death. This is another shocking example of Israel's brutal repression policy.

I'm visiting this great elephant sanctuary in Thailand and the cool thing is the mom of this baby elephant was rescued by Aaron of Planting Peace who helped coordinate my 2 Karmagawa birthday elephant rescues the past 2 weeks! Please retweet this and help me get the word out, DO NOT RIDE ELEPHANTS and do not visit "sanctuaries" that allow riding/bathing with elephants...go check out as they do a great job and are a REAL elephant sanctuary with dozens of rescued elephants and now a newborn baby of a rescued elephant too!
