When I swing, I just rotate from my core as hard as I can — like I’m throwing a hook at a heavy bag. It’s simple! I’ve never once heard a boxing coach tell a fighter to “separate” for power. They rush from the top, jerk the club down with their arms, and throw away all the power they created on the backswing. That’s why I love the Pause Drill. By pausing at the top, you’re forced to start the downswing from the ground up, just as the great ball strikers did. It teaches the proper kinematic sequence while helping you develop a smooth, unhurried transition. Do you walk when you play golf? If so, do you use a push cart or carry your clubs? If you're doing either, you should definitely give an electric cart a try. It's a total game changer. Using an electric cart is so much easier than carrying or pushing. You’ll have way more energy by the end of the round. For me, that's huge because when my legs get tired, my swing and contact suffer. Plus, I still get all my steps in, which is why I love walking when I play. Sure, you can carry your clubs. I sometimes do that for a quick nine holes. And yes, a manually powered push cart works too. But it's like playing golf in non-waterproof shoes—it’s possible, but keeping your feet dry is so much nicer. That’s how I feel about an electric cart. I can play without one, but having one makes the experience so much better. I love how much more energy I have at the end of the round when I use an electric cart. For years, I misunderstood one of the most important moves in Ben Hogan’s golf swing. I believed Hogan’s right shoulder tilted back and dropped underneath during the transition from the top—an idea that seemed to be supported by the famous shift of plane he illustrated in Five Lessons. But after years of careful study, I began to see something very different. Hogan keeps his left shoulder down much longer than I originally realized. His right shoulder doesn’t actually work underneath the left until around P6, when the club is approaching parallel to the ground on the downswing.
