I hear a lot of talk today about “hip and shoulder separation.” Yes, there’s a differential there. But honestly, I don’t want to think about it at all. When I swing, I just rotate from my core as hard as I can — like I’m throwing a hook at a heavy bag. It’s simple! I’ve never once heard a boxing coach tell a fighter to “separate” for power. They teach you to rotate your body in sequence. The power shows up naturally. The golf swing works the same way. Athletic rotation from the ground up. Simple. Powerful. Repeatable. I see the golf swing as a three-piece movement: the backswing, the transition, and the downswing. The transition is where most golfers lose the swing. They rush from the top, jerk the club down with their arms, and throw away all the power they created on the backswing. That’s why I love the Pause Drill. By pausing at the top, you’re forced to start the downswing from the ground up, just as the great ball strikers did. It teaches the proper kinematic sequence while helping you develop a smooth, unhurried transition. I constantly remind my students that a great golf swing isn’t about moving faster—it’s about moving in the right order. Master the transition, and the downswing will take care of itself.

But here is the reality: If you’re coaching every kid to move the same way, you aren’t coaching—you’re just copying and pasting. 🧩 Feel vs. Real The truth is found in who can decipher the feel vs. real for every individual player. • What a coach sees on camera (Real) is almost never what the athlete is experiencing (Feel). • If you tell a hitter to “get on plane” and they start dumping their barrels, your “correct” advice just broke their swing. 🧬 Different Bodies, Different Movements Everyone is built differently. One hitter has long levers and tight hips; another is short, explosive, and hyper-mobile. Everyone moves differently. So why on earth are we buying into ONE rigid swing philosophy? Unless that philosophy is the one that allows you to get the only intended result that matters: CONSISTENT BARRELS. 🎯 The Bottom Line Stop trying to win the “Best Looking Swing” award on Instagram. If your swing is “ugly” but you’re a barrel machine, you’re a better hitter than the kid with the “perfect” mechanics who can’t touch a high-spin heater. We need to stop chasing positions and start chasing intent. If the “feel” creates the “result,” keep it. Everything else is just noise. Stop cloning. Start competing. Do you walk when you play golf? If so, do you use a push cart or carry your clubs? If you're doing either, you should definitely give an electric cart a try. It's a total game changer. Using an electric cart is so much easier than carrying or pushing. You’ll have way more energy by the end of the round. For me, that's huge because when my legs get tired, my swing and contact suffer. Plus, I still get all my steps in, which is why I love walking when I play. Sure, you can carry your clubs. I sometimes do that for a quick nine holes. And yes, a manually powered push cart works too. But it's like playing golf in non-waterproof shoes—it’s possible, but keeping your feet dry is so much nicer. That’s how I feel about an electric cart. I can play without one, but having one makes the experience so much better. I love how much more energy I have at the end of the round when I use an electric cart. It's not that you don't want to rotate the hips. There is rotation, but you have to be able to quickly decelerate that rotation and then transfer the momentum to your core for rotation. You want to stabilize the hips so your core can swing and make full use of concentration and ecentric strength. But the core can't be tense until the moment you strike. Otherwise, energy is lost. Or, to put it in physics terms, you want to maximize impulse by decreasing the time the force is applied to stop the momentum of your rotation. In my hiatus, I had figured that part out. That punching is effectively the same motion and muscle recruitment pattern as a golf swing, baseball swing, quarterback pass, or even bowling. What had always troubled me was understanding how to synchronize my feet with these movements. That's where Tom Yankello Boxing and his brilliant training comes into play. My development had always been limited by not understanding the mechanics of a rotational movement across the traverse plane of motion. Once I got that, I figured it out, I could way more easily absorb and understand boxing. I can actually learn how to fight.

He spoke to Flushing It Golf at Valderrama about his preparation ahead of Shinnecock Hills and whether he feels any pressure after missing the last 2 cuts in majors: “Well, Valderrama is a ball striker's golf course. So you have to control your golf ball and hit the right shots under the gun with a lot of wind out here. It really is a great ball strikers paradise. The same as, you know, in the US Open. I think this is a great test.” Bryson shot rounds of 70, 71, 71 and 70 to finish T11 at Valderrama. Does he feel any pressure to perform after missing the cut at the Masters and the PGA Championship? “No. To be honest, missed cuts are gonna happen. I might miss all 4 of them in majors this year. That's just golf. Like, I’m playing great. I just haven't shown up when it mattered most. It's very close to some of my best golf ever. “Last week (in Korea) I had a great opportunity to win for the third time this year and didn't close the door.
