What is Roman Numerals? Base 5?

Roman Numerals is very interesting. It doesn't follow the traditional base system that we have (to my knowledge). The first 3 numbers are Base1: I II III Then we switch to a subtractive Base5: IV V Then Base5 + Base1??? VI VII VIII It's very different than our system.

Ye I just figured it might fit as well since it is I-V but you are right it doesn't conform to the base system... Still looks cool on Clocks though!
