On Last Night’s Attack on Khor Mor Gas Field in Chamchamal: While the field has been attacked through the years, this is the largest such attack. It was reportedly carried out with rockets and took more than 10 hours to extinguish the resulting fire. The rockets targeted storage tanks for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and condensate. One LPG tank was completely destroyed by fire, and both a condensate tank and the pipeline network connecting the tanks sustained damage. The field, while located within the Kurdistan Region under PUK control, sits very close to Kirkuk - particularly near rural villages controlled by Shia militias. Two days before the attack, rumors circulated of an imminent drone attack there and Dana Gas had instructed employees to seek shelter after radar at the site was activated. The field is the largest source of natural gas powering Kurdistan’s electricity grid, supplying more than half of the region’s power. The attack caused a severe electricity crisis: daily power availability collapsed from 24 hours to just 5 hours, with blackouts affecting most areas. Additionally, 1,700 megawatts of electricity that were being exported to Iraq were also halted.

Girde Chal camp, which houses families of PDKI members, was hit this morning and Komala's Surdash camp near Sulaymaniyah the night before. Material damage reported, no casualties. Both strikes are part of a pattern of Iranian attacks on Kurdish opposition bases in the Kurdistan region of Iraq that hasn't let up since the ceasefire. Over 800 attacks were recorded in the Kurdistan region between February 28 and April 20, leaving at least 20 people dead and 123 injured. The Kurdistan region and the UAE are the only 2 locations Iran has struck since the ceasefire was declared. Kurdish authorities keep stressing the region is not a party to this conflict. On the KRG fuel crisis, Iraq’s oil minister said that during last year’s oil agreement, the KRG itself requested an allocation of 50,000 barrels per day for domestic consumption because it has its own private refineries. He said Baghdad told the KRG plainly at the time: the federal government should receive those 50,000 barrels for export, while the Oil Ministry would instead supply the Kurdistan Region with petroleum products, including gasoline and gas oil, at the same standard prices calculated for the rest of Iraq’s governorates. He added that when the KRG recently needed cooking gas (LPG), the ministry supplied it. This is largely consistent with how KRG officials themselves described the issue during last year’s negotiations, as we outlined below. What is particularly interesting, however, is the minister’s conclusion that “the Oil and Gas Law is what is capable of providing all the solutions to this issue,” effectively framing the current fuel dispute as another consequence of the unresolved federal-KRG energy framework.
