Retro Game Engine Update 🔥 Exploring a Spatial Compression system in my game engine. Instead of changing object scale, the renderer subtly compresses distant depth in the vertex shader before projection. The goal is to make far-away spaces feel more scenic and theatrical, like a matte painting or miniature set,while keeping nearby space physically grounded and navigable. Same exact scene with this on/off for comparison. What do you think?

I made an asteroids-ish game for my watch using the Flame engine and Flutter. Running on a WearOS 3 the player can use the rotating bezel to control the player. I challenged myself to start and finish a game in a week, and here is the result: Watchsteroids. Yep, terrible name.

Ox Alpha vs Opus 5 i asked both models to build rocket engine using three.js ox-alpha is not even close to opus 5 performance and it took equal or more time for the output prompt used for both: "Create a 3d SpaceX raptor engine using three.js, use white theme background so the main object is clearly visible" both are one-shot outputs with no additional changes what do you think about Ox Alpha?

Crazy experience hooking my laptop up to my tv via HDMI and playing a browser-based Three.js game made with AI in a few days with my wireless PS5 controller... Imagine if you can dream up any map on zombies (or any game/world) and play split screen with your friends from your couch using controllers on a Three.js game that runs in the browser… a little input lag on controller movement, but exciting to see where this space can go!

I ported my #Gamecube game engine to PC, and even in its unoptimized state, it runs at 60 FPS with a minimum render distance of 64 chunks on my laptop -- double the maximum render distance of Minecraft: Java Edition. Powerful hardware won't be necessary for the game to run smoothly at long render distances. The PC port will streamline the debugging process, allowing for faster improvements across all platforms, including the Gamecube and #Dreamcast, and Wii. #indiegamedev #gamedev

IMHO, Dear ImGui is easily the most underrated library for in-game UI. I built a custom UI framework on top of it (skinning, animations, layouts, HUD elements, scaling, aligment etc) for my engine. Couldn't be happier with how fast and clean it turned out.

Tried a bit of Jak and Daxter on OpenGOAL today and it’s honestly impressive how clean it looks. The game feels sharper and smoother than I’ve ever seen it. For anyone who doesn’t know: OpenGOAL is a fan‑made project that rebuilds the original Jak and Daxter in a modern, open‑source engine so it can run natively on PC with higher resolutions and better performance. Enhancements for the first two games are already finished, and work on the third is still in development. You can even add mods and HD texture packs, since OpenGOAL supports custom assets and community-made visual upgrades. You just need a copy of the game and you’re good to go. I used UltraISO to convert my physical PS2 disc into a digital copy and it worked perfectly. 💯

I ditched Unreal for AI. Kaiju Engine is a completely AI written replacement. To prove it was ready for production, I tested it by recreating and porting my old game, Firefall, into Kaiju, purely from the Steam download, no source. And it worked. Real game code is messy, full of difficult details and compromises. If our engine could handle a commercially released game, it proves you can ship a game with it. We're developing 2 orders of magnitude faster (93x) by lines of code and features. We have fewer bugs, and iteration is super fast. Build times have gone from 30 mins (Unreal) to 36 seconds. Feature rate is through the roof, days instead of months. Our original engine for Firefall took 2-3 years and cost over 5M to build (adjusted). Our new engine was written in 5 months for a couple grand. We built only what we needed, with none of the Unreal bloat. And we added some features: - Modern meshlet based rendering with PBR. - Vis Buffer/Forward+ with clustered lighting. - Id Tech 5 style megatexture streaming. - Planetary sized renderer (entire solar systems possible). - Seamless flight from ground to orbit and space. - No loading screens. - Procedural planet generation with plate simulation. - Client/Server at all times. - Ozz for animation. Jolt for Physics. - Companion Blender plug-in for AI directed asset exports. - 140fps currently, 200-300 projected after optimizations. You can see Firefall's assets and levels ported over into our engine in the video. Texture resolution and pop-in are limitations of the original game (high rez CDN based textures were lost when game went offline, fog hid the original's pop-in). Our meshlet renderer will be able to do much better with LOD and already supports high rez textures. I used Grok/Codex/Claude to tag team the code. This is not just a boon for indie games, it's a real game changer for game preservation. The reaction to seeing this 10 year old discontinued game revived is very emotional for Firefall fans. But we're not just preserving Firefall, we're going beyond, creating an original game that is the spiritual successor, Em-8ER. Gliding, jumpjets... it's all coming back.
