Summer Trip is one of my film which I made used Omni Reference, not only start frame anymore and for the first time, it genuinely feels like I’m directing the AI instead of just prompting it. Of course, in production it still needs proper touch-ups in post, grading, timing, polishing details, but the foundation it gives is strong. Like it or not, we’re already here. And to be honest, my workflow has to evolve too. I can’t approach this the same way I did before. It’s less about generating random shots and more about guiding, refining, and thinking like a director from the start. Personally, I see this as a shift, not replacing filmmaking, but reshaping the role of the filmmaker. Now the question isn’t “Can AI make it?” but “How well can you direct it?”

The previs workflow is still leveling up! My AI filmmaking process is starting to feel less like wrangling AI and more like animation. Still just cubes in Blender, but now I’m moving the character through space and doing a handheld camera follow. Same basic process: 1. Generate a start frame in Midjourney 2. Block out the scene in Blender, animate the camera 3. Feed both to Seedance Seedance nailed the gritty handheld feel and followed the character movement around the car way better than expected. You can get way more ambitious with your directing than I thought.

It was maintaining a believable sodium vapor lighting look shot after shot. That dirty orange-yellow glow is such a huge part of the visual language of LA crime films. Once it shifts too much between cuts, the illusion starts to break. The other thing that doesn't get talked about enough is pacing. A lot of people focus on the generation itself, but editing is where tension is actually created. How long you stay on a face. When you cut. When you don't cut. The space between dialogue. That's what makes a sequence feel cinematic rather than a simple montage. As these tools improve, consistency, rhythm and pacing become even more important than raw image quality.

Co-produced with PAI by Utopai Studios, the first long-form video generation model. The AI video clip era is ending! I started with a short story idea. From there, PAI generated the characters, transformed them into keyframes, and then animated the scenes into a full sequence. The interesting part was seeing how the same characters, environment, and visual style stayed consistent across multiple shots while the story progressed naturally. What felt different here is that I wasn’t building each shot manually. I focused on the narrative, and the engine handled character creation, scene continuity, and animation to produce a ready-to-watch video.
