Fun fact: The first transatlantic internet cable is being pulled off the ocean floor right now. Almost no one knows it's happening. TAT-8 went live in 1988. After developing a fault too expensive to fix, the cable was retired in 2002. It's been sitting on the seabed ever since. Now a small crew aboard this ship is dragging it back up. Meanwhile, Meta announced Project Waterworth last year, a 50,000 kilometer cable stretching across 5 continents, partly to feed the data demands of AI. ...The entire global internet runs on cables like this, built and maintained by a few thousand people working in places most of us will never see.

Two landscapers were hurled 45 feet to the ground when a cable snapped on their cherry picker while trimming a tree at an Oklahoma home. Both were injured in the fall, with one suffering a broken femur and torn ligaments. Reflecting on the harrowing moment, one of them shared: "We knew it broke and were bracing for impact. It made us appreciate every single day and we are grateful to be here.”

JUST IN: Parachutist gets caught on the field goal netting cable, falls 35 feet to the ground moments before kickoff at the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. Five parachutists were set to land on the field before the Rice vs. Texas State game. According to reports, only three of the parachutists landed where they were supposed to. One man got caught in the netting, and another reportedly landed outside the stadium. According to the Daily Mail, the parachutist who fell to the ground was able to walk off under his own power.
