Ulcerative colitis is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks your colon, causing bleeding, severe pain, diarrhea, fatigue, and inflammation. And for many Black women, the battle starts long before the diagnosis. 👩🏾🤎 Our pain...

I don’t understand what I just heard, how did they not call an ambulance when she was sitting on the toilet and pooping blood for days????

My daughter’s colon failed when she was 22 and after two years, we finally gave up and they removed it. Fortunately, they were able to create a pouch out of her small intestine, and she only had to wear the Osteo bag for about nine months. Things aren’t perfect, but she’s bagless

This is terrifying. I am so thankful people like her are brave and share their stories in order to help others. I am so sorry she went through this but from what I get from part 1, she is handling herself with grace and is living her life fully.❤️

My best friend had ulcerative colitis, it was very painful. Then all the steroids damaged her liver so she had 2 liver transplants. I love her.

I've been a chronic pain patient for 23 yrs and one of the first studies I read showed that women and black people are the most under treated for pain in our country and women take much longer to receive diagnosis because we are often treated dismissively by drs.

You don't have to talk about poop at the dinner table, but you should have pulled your mama aside for a private conversation & told her. Who thinks blood in the stool is normal? Lets use common sense & have a sense of sel preservation Google was available when she first noticed.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. Health care is so important and when you get Drs that don’t care or were last in their class, this happens. This was not your fault and I hope that it gets better

Poor thing. I had a different GI disorder where I had to have several organs and quite a bit of my GI tract removed. I’ve talked to people with UC and Chron’s and there are a lot of similarities. Embarrassing discussions. Not being able to eat during a flare or having major dietary restrictions can be really isolating as well. Good for her for speaking up.

Thank you for sharing your story. I, too, eventually diagnosed with UC after only 18 months of symptoms. The pandemic delayed my initial colonoscopy, but was rescheduled relatively soon. I, too , went thru the gambit of meds, unsuccessfully. Eventually a biologic med worked.

That happened to my dad too and he almost went into sepsis too. Dr said he was an inch away from dying because they poked a hole through his intestine during the colonoscopy.

I was diagnosed with UC at the age of 22 after the birth of my son. I was afraid to seek medical attention, but the symptoms worsened. Meds didn’t stop my flare ups so I ultimately had to have my colon and rectum removed. Had an ostomy for 6 mths. I’m now living with a J pouch.

I legit don’t think most physicians care. The “white Jewish men” is legit retardedly though. But aside from that. Can relate, my family and their unwillingness to ever discuss heredity issues. Fun. Poor lady.

Everyone should be asking how you ended up with that awful weave. Stop the drama and deliver a serious narrative - this is a serious medical story. You’re not auditioning.

365 days ago I made a decision that saved my life. Not a diet. Not another fresh start that fizzled out by February. A decision to stop doing what was killing me and start doing what my body was actually built for. Today is my one year carniversary. And I need you to see this. 140 pounds gone. Type 2 diabetes reversed. Blood pressure normalized. Sleep apnea gone. Inflammation gone. Depression and anxiety gone. My body back. My LIFE back. No surgery. No injections. No pills. No trainer. No one carrying me through it. Just me. My daughter. This community. The data. And a decision I made and kept making every single day for 365 days. This post is not about weight loss. It is about a woman who was dying slowly and didn’t fully realize it. It is about what happens when you stop managing symptoms and start healing the actual cause. It is about what your body is capable of when you stop poisoning it and start feeding it what it was designed to run on. I wrote a book about everything I learned this year because I needed it to exist. I needed there to be something someone could pick up when they were exactly where I was a year ago, exhausted and sick and out of options, and see a way through. I am not the woman I was 365 days ago. I don’t recognize her anymore. I love her for surviving. But I don’t miss her. If you are sitting there right now thinking it is too late, or you have too much to lose, or your body is too broken, or you have tried everything… I was you. This changed my life. It saved my life. And it can save yours too. 🥩365 days. Just getting started.

Two years sober today. When every aspect of your life is associated with drinking, meetings, family do’s, holidays, Christmas, even having a baby “wetting the baby head”,Friday’s, the weekends, bank holidays, sunny days, wine with food, beer with football, packet with beer, the list goes on and its seems impossible to cut it out of your life, it just becomes standard behaviour, not doing it literally feels impossible to comprehend. If you can’t moderate when you drink, you run the risk of ruining every memorable moment in life. Life becomes a blurred depressing waiting game between sessions, you wish your weeks away to get to the weekend. Its sad, I was like that for 25 years. Its mad that we get to the point where we think living without alcohol and drugs is impossible, It’s insanity that it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, now that I'm out of the thick of it It blows my mind that this is our culture. The problem with addiction now is its hidden, our society norms allows for people to live addicted to both drink and drugs without them even knowing, because its completely normally to drink at home all week then have a huge sesh each weekend. Millions of people are literally living in pain without even knowing it. People don’t realise they have an issue until there life starts unraveling like mine did, one day I just found myself unable to chose my family, work or mental health over drinking, rock bottom after rockbottom didn’t wake me up until it hit me like a ton of bricks when it was to late, I’d lost my family, I couldn’t stop using, I was an addict. So many men lose their battle with mental health and end up taking their own lives out of guilt and shame from losing their family or work or doing stupid stuff because of drink, by the time they realised or admitted they had a problem it was to late. The problem with trying to go sober after you lose everything is it feels like there is no reason to any more and drink and drugs is all you have left, then it slowly consumes you. My 2 years is proof to anyone out there struggling that it is possible to change and HAND ON MY HEART if you struggle with an unhealthy relationship with drink and drugs you will be 100 times happier sober, I love life, I'm calm, I have peace, its hard at times but no where near as hard as it was in the chaos of my life. If you are struggling now you have so much to look forward to in sobriety, you will discover a new you, you’ll start liking yourself again, you’ll slowly get happier, stronger and the people around you will say things to you that will fill you with emotion, like “We are so proud of you”. Like this from my Shelley: “I’m immensely proud of you. You should be immensely proud of yourself. The changes you’ve made have brought you positive outcomes. Better home life, relationships, moral compass, work. All greater than I’m sure you could ever have imagined 2 years ago. Your outlook towards everything is greater.” Without Shelley I wouldn’t be here, without my sobriety we wouldn’t have our family and defiantly wouldn’t have our new baby Sage, sober Sage, two years, change is possible. Thank you Sophie, Jade & Vigo from my team for surprising me with this video, I got really emotional & proud. #Sober #Addiction #Addict #Sobriety
