FF thoroughly deserved it though. They denied refused to accept FF was hogging system resources, and making everything else you were using near unusable, for years. Chrome got the balance right. By the time FF devs finally twigged and fixed it, Chrome had eaten their lunch.

Happy to still be an FF user, and zero love for Chrome and it's sister Edge.

I started using FF back in 04/5 and became that guy in meetings who shares his screen and gets all the "oh it looks different", or "it doesn't work in Firefox, can you open it in chrome please", lol no, I suffered through v4.0 until Quantum came around and I'm not changing now...

Well I would have assumed FF would have more users than that, since FF is usually the default browser in linux (or certainly appears to be in many distros by default)

The dev team of FF keeps on making idiotic decisions and refuses to listen to the community feedback. I'll mention the "an update happended in background. Restart Firefox" that appears out of nowhere and forces you to restart FF.

FF sabotaged itself by wrecking what was working for it - it's plugin ecosystem. And it ignored user feedback after the 2017 quantum/aurora/whatever rewrite.

Working for an ISP in the 90s we always promoted Firefox. I remember an MS call center begging us to switch to IE. Then I worked as a web developer and that clinched it, no IE. Dev nightmares back in the day, and those that had it were slow to upgrade to a later version.

Firefox was pretty amazing when it first come out. think I was using opera around the time (2004ish) it was the only way to really debug web apps with firebug. But chrome was an obvious winner from the start, super clean, lightweight and fast.

I think the FF percentage sadlyhave slightly correlation to the GNU/Linux Desktop vs other OSes market share (Win + Mac). + a little use for Devs percentage on other OSes (Mac, BSD, ...). In the future edge could be the leader, because the free chatgpt native integration...

I hate FF. the only good feature they had was firebug. Stopped using FF at all at that stage, and only ever used it for testing

Been using Firefox almost exclusively since 2011. That said, their mobile version is trash, with me using the Brave browser for my phone.

I was a FF lover and had promote its use but over years the development team doesn't toke note on the resources and the slow behaviour. Chromium/Chrome get focus in speed and then the resources with a good job in extensions.
