I composed "Build a House" for the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth in 2020. It’s a proud view of our history. Today, and EVERY day, we honor that heritage. #Juneteenth Video by Noir Prism, filmed live from Tanglewood last year!

This is unreal. Post Falls’ mayor dismissed Juneteenth as “something that nobody had heard of until five years ago,” and in a 4-2 vote the City Council removed it as a city holiday while restoring Columbus Day. Juneteenth has been celebrated for generations since 1866. A narrow viewpoint doesn’t change the deep history of Juneteenth celebrations. We never needed permission to honor freedom, and we won't ask for it now.

When Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, it took over 900 days for freedom to reach enslaved people deep in America's south. Juneteenth is a day to honor the contributions of Black Americans, remember the past, and recommit to a more just future. Happy Juneteenth!

"Today, we celebrate an incredible holiday…Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed on this day in 1953. They were Communist traitors to the United States who sold the nuclear plans to the Soviets…So, celebrate Juneteenth with pride”

Juneteenth in Illinois is a state holiday. We honor the end of the national shame of chattel slavery and remind ourselves our work to dismantle systemic racism carries on. Illinois is ensuring equality and equity — and we recommit to working toward liberty and justice for all.

An Idaho mayor recently argued that Juneteenth is something "nobody had heard of until five years ago" while voting to remove it as a city holiday and restore Columbus Day. So the question isn’t whether the holiday is real history It’s whether we’re willing to acknowledge it. 🤷🏾‍♂️

This campaign is born out of one of the most difficult times for our state. But in those hard moments, Minnesota doesn’t look away or give up — we stand up and get involved. We will never give up on this democracy or each other.

Fairfax County Public Schools School Board in Virginia voted 8-1 to make Veterans Day a regular school day for the 2026-2027 school year It will no longer be a holiday for students This same board did not vote to eliminate Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a holiday They say the change was made to reduce the number of disrupted school weeks and to give families more consistent 5 day instructional weeks Sure….. because 1 day off for Veteran’s Day is a problem….. Democrats in Virginia decided Veteran’s Day is no longer important

Juneteenth as a federal holiday is meant to breathe new life into the very essence of America. To make sure all Americans feel the power of this day and the progress we can make for our country. Earlier this week, I felt that power at the White House.

🔥🚨DEVELOPING: Former First Lady Michelle Obama made an announcement to Black Americans about how ‘our power, our rights and our planet’ is ‘on the ballot this year.’ Why would she use Juneteenth to talk about voting when a Republican vote created the holiday? They are using every excuse to talk about this election. It has to be the most important election in recent history.

Connecticut requires a person’s driver’s license when cashing in more than 1,000 cans or bottles in a day. Yet Connecticut does not require a person’s driver’s license to vote. RIDICULOUS! Connecticut increased fines for returning out-of-state bottles and cans tenfold early this year by passing the Democrat bill SB 299 in late February. Democrat Gov. Ned Lamont signed it into law on March 3. Fines for first-time offenders now range from $500 to $750. Subsequent offenders face $1,000+ fines. Third-time offenders could get up to a year in jail. Connecticut bottle redemption businesses and the state program have experienced significant losses due to out-of-state people taking advantage of Connecticut’s 10-cent return system. “There are more bottles being returned than there are being bought in the state.” This is due to states like Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York only having a 5-cent return system. Connecticut lawmakers are hoping surrounding states at the 5-cent level raise theirs to 10 cents. Obviously what’s most ridiculous here is that Connecticut doesn’t think requiring a driver’s license is discriminatory when it comes to combatting bottle and can return fraud—yet they do when it comes to combatting election fraud. I was honored to celebrate Juneteenth alongside so many of you today across our state to honor freedom, heritage, and the people who keep this history alive. This is a day to reflect on freedom, resilience, and the work still ahead.
