Earlier today, I had the privilege of touring the Teknowledge office in Lagos alongside the Honorable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande (Ayodele Olawande ). Also present was Niyi Odejobi, as we explored the groundbreaking work Teknowledge is doing to drive technological innovation and youth empowerment in Nigeria. Teknowledge is dedicated to equipping young Nigerians with the skills and resources they need to thrive in the digital economy. Through specialized training in software development, artificial intelligence, digital entrepreneurship, and startup incubation, the organization is helping bridge the digital skills gap, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities for young people to excel. Their work is shaping a future where Nigerian youth are not just consumers of technology but active creators and leaders in the space. During the visit, the Minister was visibly impressed by the impact Teknowledge is making. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young people through digital education and job creation. I want all of you to watch this short video sent to me by a Zimbabwean doctor working in the paediatric section of the country’s largest individual hospital, Sally Mugabe. Things have deteriorated to the point where cockroaches are moving freely in the wards, as you can see. This simply requires pest control, but when the wrong people hold important positions, hospitals end up like this. I asked some of the hospital managers why things are like this. “We are not being given the money,” is what all three managers I spoke to told me. They told me that they now just mop when there is no detergent, and they said this is a terrible thing in a children’s wards. One of the managers told me that mothers struggle at night with kids crying due to the coachroaches. It comes down to corruption and how it is destroying every facet of public life under Zimbabwe’s dictator, Emmerson Mnangagwa. Corruption is seemingly eroding essential public services like healthcare, which have a direct and significant impact on the well-being of Zimbabweans, especially the most vulnerable.

Learning is something you and your baby do together. You can think of the process as happening in three distinct stages, during which skills are transferred gradually from you to your little one: During the first stage, your baby is observing the behavior and skills of others. During the second, they begin to emulate these behaviors - and can find success with the support of a helpful adult (you) or more expert peer (often a sibling). And gradually they internalize these skills and perform them all by themselves. This video is a great example of the shared second phase. Infants explore the world with their mouths. But an important lesson of toddlerhood is that some things are for putting in our mouths, while others are not. This little one knows that we don’t eat the Play-Doh. But it sure is tempting! Watch as he breaks off a piece and brings it to his mouth. As he does his eyes lift and he realizes that Mom is watching - which alone prompts some introspection. He grins broadly, shakes his head and exclaims “No, no, no” - using Mom’s past words to affirm his decision to place the Play-Doh back on the table. Left to his own devices, who knows? But together, without exchanging a word, he managed to make the right choice. As a parent it’s important to remember the key role you play in the learning process. Made a quick haptic feedback prototype for hand-tracking interactions with a voxel. Felt fun and engaging. It's another level of immersiveness (unfortunately, the video is not able to convey this). Visual design alone can make an interactive experience great, but if you want to make it exceptional, DIFFERENT, this is where haptic design plays the key role. The device on my wrist is from the Hapticlabs.io Prototyping Kit (the thing on my index fingertip is called Linear Resonant Actuator). It's a beautiful, simple-to-use tool. Found a good case for it in my experiments :) To get hand-tracking data, I used the Leap Motion controller (Computer Vision Camera), which is excellent for quick prototypes like this. I saw people experimenting with gloves to build a solid haptic feedback system for XR. It's great for advanced immersive experiences (video games/simulators/interactive entertainment). But for many day-to-day use cases (productivity/OS/media entertainment), having just a "simple" thimble that provides the haptic feedback for the "touching" fingertip will already significantly improve the UX. Hope we will have something like this from our major XR vendors in the near future.
