The lights were already being switched off much earlier with the Doha EXIT Agreement your administration signed with the Taliban after direct talks... with Abdul -Ghani Baradar. Second, that agreement excluded the Afghan Republic government and forced the release of around 5,000 Taliban prisoners, many of whom returned straight to the battlefield. Third, when the final withdrawal was taking place, the United States quite literally turned the lights off and left, while the Taliban largely allowed safe passage for your Generals & troops departing under the terms of the deal. So before rewriting history, it is worth remembering who negotiated the deal, opened the prison gates, and scheduled the exit. In short: the lights didn’t go out in Kabul in 2021, they were dimmed much earlier under your administration.show more

Something is wrong when American soldiers survive Taliban, al-Qaeda, and ISIS-K attacks in Afghanistan only to be executed in broad daylight by one of their operatives in Washington, D.C. Is it the fault of the bureaucrats who dismissed our warnings that these terrorists were already inside the United States—some evacuated? Is it the fault of the Senators who are stalling the No Tax Dollars For Terrorists Act after we proved your money was funneled to the Taliban? We told them the Taliban are the same as they were on 9/11 and nothing has changed. Is it the fault of the Members of Congress who voted down an amendment that would stop all U.S. intelligence sharing with the Taliban? Is it the fault of the experts who crowned the Taliban as America’s counterterrorism partner, and continued collecting intelligence from them despite our repeated briefings that the Taliban hosts a dozen international terrorist groups? Is it the fault of the CIA’s political leadership who claimed the Taliban can be trusted and relied on to tell the U.S. government who’s who and what they are planning? This is the same Taliban that banned girls from secondary schools and forced them into marriage. The same Taliban that, earlier this month, arrested dozens of women in Herat for how they were dressed. The same Taliban that detains, beats and executes women who dare to speak out or break their rules. Through its system of gender apartheid, the Taliban have erased women and girls from public life. Europe must not legitimise a regime responsible for one of the worst human rights crises in the world. Any engagement with the Taliban must begin and end with the rights of Afghan women and girls.
