وحشت در جاده های هرات: کسانی که به ظاهر پاسبان امنیت مردم اند، یکباره چهره های اصلی خود را نمایان میکنند و به جان مردم میافتند. نه حریم شخصی و نه معیار های دینی و فرهنگی را رعایت میکنند. تصور میکنند که افرادی را به گروگان و اسیر گرفته اند. امنیت در نظام طالبان یعنی همین! امنیت نظام طالبانی یعنی هر طالب میتواند هر کسی را که خواست به گلوله ببندد. مانند آنچه در سر پل در برابر یک زن کُرد و دخترش به دست رئیس امر بالمعروف ولایت انجام یافت. امنیت طالبانی یعنی حد اقل ۳۰ زخمی و یک کشته به اثر شلیک مستقیم طالبان به روی مردم و دستدرازی به وجود زنان در روز روشن! امنیت طالبانی یعنی جامعهای اسیر در یک زندان بزرگ که هر لحظه میتواند با تجاوز، دهشت، و قتل و کشتار مواجه شده و هیچکس هم مواخذه نشود.

During a recent military parade, members of the Afghan Taliban recited verses that included threats directed at Pakistan’s armed forces. The poem reportedly used derogatory language toward the Pakistani military, referring them warning that if Pakistan conducted airstrikes on Kabul again, the Taliban would retaliate by “burning Islamabad” and “raising their flags in Lahore.” The verses further warned Pakistan not to “force the Afghans to relive their history and take up arms once more,” referring to past Afghan conquests under Ahmad Shah Abdali and other rulers who launched invasions into Indian Subcontinent territories that include present-day Punjab in Pakistan, a symbolic reminder of Afghanistan’s martial legacy.

Old “veritable arm” amputated. A new one taking shape? That phrase dates back to 2011, when Mike Mullen told the US Senate that the Haqqani Network functioned as a “veritable arm” of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, a remark that echoed through two decades of debate about the role of GHQ Rawalpindi in the Afghan conflict. Fast forward to today, and the irony is hard to miss. Last week, Sirajuddin Haqqani warned that Afghanistan would defend itself against Pakistani cross-durand strikes, accusing Islamabad of bombing civilian areas in Behsud and Khas Kunar, including Gardi Kas village and the Hijrat Abad refugee camp. Days later, another striking development: Haji Mali Khan, the deputy chief of staff of the Taliban army and Siraj Haqqani’s uncle reportedly appeared on the front line and targeted a Pakistani border forces outpost with an anti-armour rocket launcher. If confirmed, it would mark the first time a senior Taliban official has openly surfaced in frontline action against Pakistan. Which raises an uncomfortable question. If the Haqqani network was once a “veritable arm” of Pakistan’s security apparatus, what are we witnessing now? Has that arm been amputated or simply turned? And if so, what new “arms” might be quietly taking shape in the laboratories of Rawalpindi’s security establishment? History offers a sobering lesson: proxies are rarely obedient forever. They mutate, fragment, and eventually follow their own logic. The tragedy, as always, is that the fire being played with is not abstract strategy, it burns villages, and ordinary people. And once that fire spreads, it rarely stays within the lines drawn in Rawalpindi.

Mr. President, a quick fact-check, with the lights on while Abdul gave you an exit. First, the war in Afghanistan did not suddenly end in 2021. The lights were already being switched off much earlier with the Doha EXIT Agreement your administration signed with the Taliban after direct talks with Abdul -Ghani Baradar. Second, that agreement excluded the Afghan Republic government and forced the release of around 5,000 Taliban prisoners, many of whom returned straight to the battlefield. Third, when the final withdrawal was taking place, the United States quite literally turned the lights off and left, while the Taliban largely allowed safe passage for your Generals & troops departing under the terms of the deal. So before rewriting history, it is worth remembering who negotiated the deal, opened the prison gates, and scheduled the exit. In short: the lights didn’t go out in Kabul in 2021, they were dimmed much earlier under your administration.
