MW2 decompilation is nearing its end. With currently 17 agents working in parallel, we're making progress at an incredible pace. The game is fully playable now and almost all visible bugs are gone. Only a few are left. I even managed to get my first nuke ☢️😂

The source code is of great quality. It is really clean and probably super close to the original source code. We even have many dev functionalities avilable, e.g. raw asset loading or debug assertions. More than 70% of the functions are identical:

It was an amazing experiment and I honestly learned so much about AI orchestration. I will surely create a final post with all take aways.

We got Temu MW2 before GTA6

the fuck you mean temu mw2. this was genuinely hard work. lots of optimizations, harness development, and engineering to get code quality on a maximum level.

@humbis Soooooo temu cod?

@humbis

What about the niche animation mechanics like barrel rolling shotguns and tac knife flipping ?

good question. this will need a few rounds of testing

There are tons of niche mechanics specific to the mw2 engine - consider making a repository / running list of such

This is exactly why we chose byte exact decompilation. The chance that all these mechanics work flawlessly isnextremely high.

17 agents decompiling a game in parallel while their human gets his first nuke, everyone is doing their job

How long till game companies and their legal teams come at all of this like a freight train

It's really hard to tell. I mean we've been modding games for years now. MW2 is 17 years old. I don't think anything will happen. I think it's a hype that will pass. Most of these decompilation projects are incomplete and thus will lose traction fast.

@momo5502 love it, now ask your agents to port it to WebAssembly / WebGPU next and add multiplayer if you haven't already!

turn on sleight of hand that reload speed is killing me

nah. scavanger is goated. how else would i be able to camp and retain my ammo 😂

Are you going for byte-byte recompilation back to the original executable?

yes and no. Byte-byte, but a dev version of the game, that is much richer than retail. It contains the gsc compiler, raw asset parsing code, debug assertions, ingame console and much more that retail lacks

Cool. Thanks!

I need an IOS version with MP now

…they’re going to DMCA this because they want you on modern shitslop

why it feels like the Famas has a delay when it shoots?

because it has delay 😂 that's one of the bugs left. we're not fully done, yet

Halo Reclaimer x MW2 lobbies are going to go so hard

Where can I find it

How is the performance compared to the origina? Im very curious.

it's identical. byte exact decompilation means the semantics are the same.

Thanks man, thats actually really cool then. I was wondering. As all the fps counters in these videos are always like 80fps or whatever.

is this the rust rewrite I keep hearing about? or is that something different

No, the rust rewrite is basically a completely new game using MW2 assets. This is a faithful decompilation of MW2 retaining all functionalities of vanilla MW2 1:1

that's awesome I've read your first blogpost, I'm guessing it was a learning curve to orchestrate the agents in an efficient way please do not forget about us plebs and teach us the efficient workflow you ended up with. I wanna try this

will do. though, i still want to wait a bit. one of the agents has decided to delete the vm again 😭 don't want to write a blog post giving shit advice :P

Hoping for WaW, BO1 and BO2 someday, probably still a couple years away though

I would love to see a write up about how to orchestrate agents to do these sorts of tasks

Will you opensource the code?

Why are people doing all this? What is his point of decompiling the game? What do you try to do exactly?

lot's of reasons, but the main reason is I want the source. ever since I touched MW2 I dream of having the source.

@ohelshazli @grok explain why just buying the game doesn't give you access to "the source". im lost here

Buying a game gets you the compiled binary (machine code the PC runs) plus assets, not the original human-readable source code the developers wrote. That source stays proprietary and is never shipped with the product. Decompilation is the hard reverse-engineering process of reconstructing an approximation of it from the binary.

how did u get the assets though?

I bought the game man 😂

Congrats! Will you release the source? I would love to port it to iOS just for fun :D probably for Apple TV too. Write me if you don’t want to share it publicly. I can help.

bro please please please let us self host and run lan parties of this shit

would be cool if we could get skyrim/half life/doom level modding for all or most games theres so many games with awesome gameplay but not that much replayability

Hearing and seeing this gave me Vietnam (middle school) flashbacks

Where we’ll be able to play it?

Can you DLSS 5 it?

so this will be a higher end iw4x?

This game is already native on PC, what's the point here?

Can you explain what this project is?

are you not afraid that Activition will come after you? Don’t get me wrong, i’m proud of your progress and love what you do, but I don’t want anything bad to happen

This is such a great project and I hope to see more of this with different CoD titles, let's modernize and preserve those games forever!

Are there any specific tooling you guys use?

Impressive work!

How much does it cost to do this?

What we do here is go back.

yes, we go back to the glory of gaming.
