Gambling companies are finding loopholes to entice vulnerable people back onto their platform - even when people have decided they want to stop gambling and self excluded on BetStop. This is what happens when you leave gaps that can be exploited by what is known to be a predatory industry. And it shows what will happen if the Government opts for a partial ban on gambling ads, rather than a full ban. The late Labor MP Peta Murphy and her committee report gave us the blueprint for change, it's time for the government to implement the Murphy Report recommendations in full. If you want to read more, this is from Peta Murphy's Foreword to the committee report: "Online gambling companies advertise so much in Australia because it works. Online gambling has been deliberately and strategically marketed alongside sport, which has normalised it as a fun, harmless, and sociable activity that is part of a favourite pastime. Gambling advertising is grooming children and young people to gamble and encourages riskier behaviour. The torrent of advertising is inescapable. It is manipulating an impressionable and vulnerable audience to gamble online. Australia’s largest professional sporting codes and broadcast media were largely in lockstep with their advertising and sponsorship partners in the gambling industry during this inquiry to oppose further restrictions. The Committee shares the concerns of many witnesses and the community that the status quo is leading to a generation of young Australians who view gambling and sport as inextricably linked. This is concerning, not only because of the potential increase in Australians experiencing gambling harm, but also about changes to the culture of sport. Australia would be diminished if sport was to be so captured by gambling revenue that providing an opportunity for betting came to be seen as its primary purpose. The Counter-Strike Content Scene might have a big problem on YouTube... YouTube removed my video for promoting unlicensed gambling despite it NOT containing any mention of gambling / case opening websites. They refuse to back down and at the same time they REFUSE to specify at which time the "promotion" is located. If they don't give us this information, I will not know how to avoid this in the future, and releasing videos becomes quite scary as I risk the removal of the entire channel despite not doing anything wrong intentionally. This is a extremely frustrating problem to have as I see a multitude of channels directly promote gambling sites and nothing is done to them, while at the same time I chose to NOT take gambling website money to avoid problems like this, it makes no sense. The only thing they have provided us is a link to their policy (I will share this in the post below so you can read it too if you want) which states Direct promotion of gambling is not allowed, but I repeat, there was none. As it was a documentary about a Counter-Strike player - Xantares, there were images of him wearing jerseys that had the names of gambling websites on them, but that is not a direct promotion. I'd like to ask the community to like & retweet this for visibility, and ideally if anyone is in contact with a person on the YouTube team that could give us a good faith explanation of what we did wrong, it would really help out not only just me, but the entire community because if I won't be able to release videos due to fear of getting strikes, I will not be the only creator is affected. At the same time I decided to upload the video here, on X, to invite the community to point out if they see how I broke the YT policy. My thoughts on Brendan Sorsby… There’s no way he’s the only player struggling with gambling. I get it. The NCAA has to protect the integrity of the game. But this decision creates an unintended consequence. It tells every athlete dealing with a gambling problem to stay quiet. With more money in players’ pockets and sports betting more accessible than ever, gambling addiction isn’t going away. The real question is whether athletes feel safe asking for help before it costs them their career…or more. My fear is that 5-10 years from now, we’ll hear stories from former athletes who never got help until it was too late. What do we think?
