My experience growing saffron, the world's most expensive spice. Surprisingly easy...you just need a TON of it to have a meaningful harvest

I would love to try growing Szechuan peppercorns

Ooo that's a good one

I had a dozen or so flowers a couple of seasons ago and felt they were suuuper easy to handle/harvest; however I screwed up their overwintering and the bulbs rotted 🥲

And I learned that the plant dies away only to come back to life in the fall. I’ve had it now for 3 years and it keeps getting bigger and spreading.

This is great content. Love learning this stuff. What I learned is id rather buy it than grow it 😂

Penzeys shout out

Used to amaze me when I’d see my kids’ primary school menu and notice saffron risotto on there as a primo. Italians just do this stuff differently. 😁

Please tell me you're gonna sell the saffron so I can buy it because I can't bring myself to murder another plant.

Absolutely not

Terrible customer service.

Does the bulb produce just one flower? Is it a perennial?

You need to bloom saffron first. You need to grind it first, then bloom it either with ice or hot water.

That was probably enough to season rice for a entire family from just that one flower. 😁 Not so bad if you think about it.

Seriously... what's the deal with Saffron? I have 200+ spices in my cabinet and freezer, I almost never use saffron because of cost. What's the benefit? Am I missing something here?

Arroz caldo!!!

breed it hybridize it and make it go to seed

We grow it

you didn't say anything about your experience growing it
