You cannot superimpose a sphere onto a 2D map and maintain size and direction accurately. The point of the mercator map is for direction and navigation. It accurately shows the location of each land mass and the direction you need to travel there, though it distorts the size.

I learned this in the 3rd grade in 1986 how the fuck is this news or a source of confusion 🤷🏼‍♂️

I guess they no longer teach people maps and their uses. If you want an accurate visual representation of the Earth get a fucking GLOBE

Vusi, My head always spin when ever I travel international, for some reasons nothing makes sense to me: It’s 8hours between South Africa and UAE, it’s about 7 or 8hours between UAE and China, yet there’s whole night and Day between UAE and China while SA and UAE is +1Hour time difference.

The flat map shows curved lines because of the distortion of puting put a global picture onto a flat surface. And of course the globe pic shows straight lines.
