My issue with the Indian Express report is not that it highlighted disagreements within the Election Commission. The issue is that it appears to focus heavily on selected objections and internal notes while giving far less attention to what happened afterwards. In any multi-member institution, disagreements, questions and written...

Aunty ji, the change in Form 6 legally can't be done by Election Commission but it was done anyway and this was raised by the other two election commissioners, despite this, the changes were made. So how this is a small disagreement?

Don’t merely become a PR agency for @BJP4India There’s a fundamental difference between having disagreements and raising serious objections to decisions being taken unilaterally within a constitutional body. The ECI must also answer how unanimity was reached on Form 6 and address the other objections raised by the Election Commissioners.

We are talking about decisions concerning India's electoral rolls where two of the three Election Commissioners reportedly recorded repeated objections to actions taken without their knowledge or approval. If the Commission is a three-member body, the process matters as much as the final decision. With over 13 crore names omitted from draft rolls during SIR, these concerns deserve scrutiny and not dismissal as mere internal differences.

Press Note didn't deny the events as per @IndianExpress report, you mentioned reports didn't had conclusion; but main question is for the events only. The two of them even didn't know few of the decision made at final. Press Note doesn't even has signature of those 3 members

You clearly didn't read the thread from @RitikaChopra__ disagreements are common in any place. The problem arises when decisions are made without others knowing, with no meetings taking place and the two ECs kept in the dark most of the time. And about ECINET

If dissent to a decision is recorded in writing and the decision is signed only by one then it cannot be turned into a consensus. If dissent is recorded in the minutes of a discussion but the final decision bears the signatures of all members then it can be said to have been taken by consensus.

Pl explain the following: 1. Was due process followed in change of form 6? Why 97 voters in Goa not added back ? Who authorised to file 33 L appeals against addition in west bengal ?

Nice try to diffuse....if it is healthy disagreements, then these won't happen - (1) Escalating to cabinet secretary (2) 14 dissent notes in 10 months...after the first 2 notes..they would be sitting and discussing face to face (3) Forget dissent...they are not even in the loop

My response is in the plural and they bounce! The entire coverage shows no attempt at discussion on contentious issues. Meetings without agenda is a clear indication of what was happening! Lady, be good and stop defending the indefensible.

desperate attempt to defend CEC - don’t focus on disagreements but decisions taken; can u justify centralization of voter management system thru software denying access to EROs in states whose job it is ) which has led to selective deletion & addition of voters at central level?

Not naive but utter stupidity. Other ECs kept saying you are not following lawn and disagreed but CEC kept on taking devision which should have been “unanimous”. It’s nothing but arm twisting and playing with people’s right to vote which is the backbone of democracy. Govt=CEC

Please use logic. Agreement on any issue of the ECI has to be reached "before" it is implemented, not "after" it is put in practice. There has been a massive fraud committed by CEC taking decisions without majority in the three-member team. CEC must resign.

The outcome was not that great either….lakhs of voters were disenfranchised and now that they are appealing to be reinstated, we are told that it would take 12 years to resolve all the appeals. Why take such a step anyway? This is incomprehensible!

Even if consensus was reached, fact is that the damaging concerns raised about 97 Goa voters and mass deletion appeals running into lakhs through a software is still an on-ground reality till date. This revelation is beyond the EC's concerns and now is this country's concern.

It is not disagreement that the election commissioners are talking about. It is being kept in dark. 🙏🏼

The Zimbabwean election has two contentious issues, the process and the presidential results dispute. The international community has chosen to focus on the flawed process whilst the Zimbabwean opposition is concentrating on the disputed presidential figures. Most African ambassadors who support SADC’s preliminary report are however confused by the opposition’s focus on results from a flawed election with glaring irregularities. They are saying that if the opposition says it won, it becomes difficult to sustain the flawed election argument which the United Nations has taken. They argue that the issue becomes about election results, and that if the opposition fails to produce the V11s for every polling station, that is the end of the story. The opposition says it has all the V11s as its leader Nelson Chamisa says in this video statement, so all concerned are now waiting for the production of the V11s that confirm a Nelson Chamisa victory. The opposition has deliberately said less about annulling the whole election, something that the international community thought would be a more powerful argument. Some in the opposition have argued that this is because parliament comes with money for the party, it means that annulling the elections takes away the money whilst the dispute is being resolved. Whilst the observer missions agree that there were glaring election day irregularities, they also argue that if the CCC dispute is going to be about elections results, then there is very little they can do without V11s for every polling station. SADC Ambassadors have privately defended the SADC observer team mission preliminary report. They are calling for an even tougher final report, but they are saying that is where it will end because the opposition accepts the parliamentary results, and its dispute is on the presidential result. They are saying CCC can’t trash the whole election whilst accepting part of the results from the same election. In short, without producing V11s from all polling stations, that is the end of the story. It would have been more powerful to dismiss the whole electoral process, but CCC has taken a different route of focusing on the presidential result. All concerned are now waiting for the production of the V11s, that is where this election study is now at, without which that will be the end of story.

We’re living through a strange inversion: the habits most people can adopt are losing status, while the traits few people can change are becoming the new currency of success. Traits that are widely attainable and reliably linked to success seem to be losing cultural status, while traits that are far less within individual control are becoming more prized. By “attainable,” I mean the traditional, middle-class virtues: showing up on time, keeping your word, working hard, exercising discipline, treating others with respect, staying within the law. These are not evenly distributed, but they are broadly accessible. Almost anyone, regardless of background, can improve at them on the margin. You can be a little more punctual. A little more prepared. A little more conscientious. And those marginal improvements compound. By contrast, many of the traits that now seem to carry greater weight are far less malleable. Physical attractiveness has some room for improvement, but there are clear limits. The same is true of cognitive ability. People can develop skills and knowledge, but underlying aptitude is much harder to move. The ceiling is tighter, and the returns to effort are less predictable. What’s striking is not just this shift, but the accompanying change in how we talk about it. The older virtues are increasingly treated with suspicion or even contempt. Suggest that someone might benefit from working harder or being more disciplined, and the response is often defensive or hostile. The implication is that such advice is naive at best, or unfair at worst—that outcomes are driven primarily by forces outside individual control. Some of that critique is valid. Circumstances matter. But if we lose sight of the habits that remain within reach for most people, we risk devaluing the very behaviors that, historically, have offered the most reliable path to upward mobility.
