Collins: Do you still believe that Thanksgiving should be canceled? Hong: I'm a chef, and one of the first meals that I made was for the community when I was 16 was a Thanksgiving meal. But Thanksgiving is also a time that's incredibly painful for many people in our communities. And so I think there, I wanted to make sure that people understood that there are multiple views, but views can evolve. And the position that I'm running for right now, and I think my background as a chef will actually help me become a better governor that's able to bring more people to the table.

Through the holy month of Ramadan, World Central Kitchen made sure families could gather together to end a long day of fasting. Our teams on the ground delivered Ramadan boxes with enough halal staples to prepare 70 meals. We delivered tens of thousands of them, which meant millions of meals. Our work in Gaza is far from over. This is a season of renewal and rebirth across the world, across cultures and religions. Nowhere is that needed more than the Middle East right now. There are four World Central Kitchen warehouses in Jordan filled with food for the people of Gaza….rice, oil, flour, vegetables…over 100 trucks loaded and ready to arrive to the border crossing in less than an hour. We have hundreds more trucks ready to bring cooking supplies and more food, but still the government of Israel is not permitting us to enter with aid. We have been cooking and feeding in Gaza at a huge scale for more than 19 months. More than 130 million meals! For months, Israel has not allowed any aid to enter…we have been forced to shut down of our community kitchens and bakeries. We have no food left…but we are ready at any moment to start cooking again. Many innocent families are desperate to eat. Let us feed the people of Gaza!

The Buju Banton Foundation is partnering with Barrington Irving of the Experience Aviation team and other partners leading one of the largest humanitarian airlifts organized outside of Jamaica since Hurricane Melissa. Every day, the team has been collecting donations, fundraising, and rallying global support to deliver 50,000 pounds of essential supplies to communities in urgent need. The aircraft is ready to be packed to capacity, inside and in its belly, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of supporters worldwide. Buju Banton, a legend in his own right, continues to push this mission forward with one message: Jamaica needs us now more than ever. One love, one heart, one people! Let’s continue giving, continue donating, and continue delivering relief to our brothers and sisters across the island.

Our Sisters in Maggotty, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica suffered extensive roof loss, wind and water damage including loss of electronics, wiring, etc. They are without electricity and will be likely so until after the new year. I just bought 4 Patriot solar generators for the mission in Maggotty, Jamaica, 2 laptops and electric cookware. I'm stepping out in faith, as this has cost our province over $15,000, plus we sent the mission $5,000 to help cover supplies that need to be purchased. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. PS THANK GOD for United Cajun Navy who will help me get these supplies transported to Magotty, Jamaica. There are wonderful people in the world. THANKS to all who have already given. I will forward funds to the Sisters to pay for the roof repairs, and our website has a button to help me pay for these supplies that were unplanned for our province.

The cold wet months are approaching faster than you think so I’m leaving my dignity at the door here and asking for more of your support. Having David May with me today was both surreal and inspiring, he too is shares the same frustrations as many regarding the homeless crisis, let’s all club together and help those who need helping. The veteran trader, who has worked in the craft market for over 50 years, described the loss as one of the worst he has ever seen. “As you can see, everything liquid. The shop top lift off, lift off. We got a loss — a really big loss, and we lose a lot of money… but we have life. 🙏💔😢It has now been 65 days since aid has crossed the borders, 65 days since a single piece of food or medicine or even water was allowed to enter into 💔🇵🇸😞#Gaza. The markets are empty and deserted, visiting them is a great risk, and there is nothing there worth going for anyway. 🫂 I am feeling physically better than I was previously, my friends. The terrible pain and fatigue that seemed to settle in every corner of my body has lightened, but the terrible situation we are in weighs down on us heavier than ever, and the news only continues to point us towards our certain death. I'm unsure what to even say to you some days. It's hard to convey the urgency of our request when we ask you for help, that people will die before our eyes if we cannot continue to operate the kitchen, and that every day we have to choose who to help and who to refuse. It's like we're living in hell or something arguably worse. My friends and I wish to continue to help the desperate hungry people with food and water, but we urgently need more donations to do this. I want to look after my family, too, and the cats in my shelter, which is becoming increasingly difficult every day. Please help us, my friends, I hate to beg but we are dying and we desperately want to live and to help others to live too. 🙏💔😢It has now been 65 days since aid has crossed the borders, 65 days since a single piece of food or medicine or even water was allowed to enter into 💔🇵🇸😞#Gaza. The markets are empty and deserted, visiting them is a great risk, and there is nothing there worth going for anyway. 🫂 I am feeling physically better than I was previously, my friends. The terrible pain and fatigue that seemed to settle in every corner of my body has lightened, but the terrible situation we are in weighs down on us heavier than ever, and the news only continues to point us towards our certain death. I'm unsure what to even say to you some days. It's hard to convey the urgency of our request when we ask you for help, that people will die before our eyes if we cannot continue to operate the kitchen, and that every day we have to choose who to help and who to refuse. It's like we're living in hell or something arguably worse. My friends and I wish to continue to help the desperate hungry people with food and water, but we urgently need more donations to do this. I want to look after my family, too, and the cats in my shelter, which is becoming increasingly difficult every day. Please help us, my friends, I hate to beg but we are dying and we desperately want to live and to help others to live too. Her passing has come as a huge shock to all who knew her, and our thoughts are with Steve and his family at this incredibly difficult time. Many friends, colleagues, and members of the Union have reached out asking how they can help. We have set up a GoFundMe page to provide support for Steve and his family as they navigate the days and weeks ahead. The Chefs and people of Acapulco,Guerrero coming together joining forces with World Central Kitchen to increase food and water output every day, almost 20k meals today but by the weekend we will reach close to 100k. With more restaurants joining us. My Jamaican family, especially those in the parishes of Westmoreland, Hanover, Trelawny, St. James, and St. Elizabeth, we know you have been hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa, and we know that your needs are urgent. Many of you are anxious and still processing the trauma of an event few could have imagined. We want to assure you that we are working, every hour of every day, to reach you. The Jamaica Defence Force, the National Works Agency, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and our Fire Brigade are on the ground, clearing blocked roads and re-establishing access to communities that remain cut off. We have welcomed a 300-member humanitarian team from El Salvador, trained in search and rescue, public order, disaster response, and health care. They have arrived with medical supplies and essential relief. We are also working closely with the United States to enhance air support, with helicopters now supplementing the JDF fleet to accelerate aid delivery. These are tangible examples of how we are mobilizing all available local and international partnerships to ensure every community receives assistance. We ask for your continued patience and understanding. The Government of Jamaica remains steadfast in our commitment to bring help to every person in need. Help is coming. We will be there for you.
