My problem with Maresca is simple... he’s overcomplicating Chelsea’s football vs " smaller teams" The system turns these games into a tactics-off, empowers the opposition and handcuffs our attackers

I think you’ve nailed it here. I do feel the same sense of tactical chess and obligating ourselves to follow the pattern rather than trying to directly go for the kill when the opportunities arise. It does feel like we handcuff ourselves at times. You’re onto something here bro 👊🏻

Complete opposite today though, flurry of transitions because we was more direct but our decision making was absolutely horrific from the forwards

opposite in what sense

Handcuffing our attackers and over complicating it, against Leeds we absolutely over complicated it with the tactical changes, but today it was on the player quality, so poor

100% it was the players too, but equally, the approach is still the framework alot of the move failed because Palmer just needs to find his rhythm again but particular moments standing out to me were Neto being released down the right, coming inside, then having to play 20 yards back to gusto or even the end sequence where for some reason, cucurella overlapped down the right? regardless, we only had a Neto inswinger to unlock them today, games reduce down to cross and pray too often and no other additions are made

@ConnorHolden00 The game was reduced to cross and pray because our attackers are awful, everything you just complained about is almost all down to player quality

im not reducing that fact, but, i also cant ignore that its been the exact same issues that weve seen from last season too, this isnt some 1 game issue im talking about outside of cole palmer and enzo fernandez knitting passes better, i dont see how we create enough problems for the opposition to solve with our framework maybe the wingers might be better, if they didnt have to hug wide by themselves 24/7 if we had haaland and whoever, they simply would not have the same numbers or metrics here

@ConnorHolden00 Gittens and Garnacho both become worse the moment they leave the touchline and have to work in half spaces, the system actually helps them if anything in that regard. It’s Estevao that needs an overlap at times to damage central areas

@ConnorHolden00 you dont have to position in the half space, you need need an underlap or overlap to come inside

I never normally post on here, but made this vid for twitter, i feel like alot of people that follow me on here, dont really know what my actual thoughts are Feels like the algo just hurts me on here, I get it, im not always as active But, these are some of my thoughts I have around Maresca, whenever we come up against the "winnable teams"

Against the smaller teams, Maresca not willing to have RBs & LBs keep the width, even if briefly is killing us. Enzo Fernandez is killing us as well, with his inability to pass forward.

We also reduce the posibility for balls over the top to add pace

Spot on

#MarescaOUT

Spot on bro,it’s too slow and predictable..especially when the opposition isn’t willing to give you space in behind. No element of surprise at all, even the transitions are so poor..Multiple times in counter situations they just get forward and it’s almost like they’re clueless..

We shouldn’t play with two RBs vs Bournemouth and Santos is on the bench

I feel like after this season regardless of our placement and trophies won we should part ways with maresca it’s clear he has a ceiling in the EPL (top 4 manager at best) players like Palmer and Steve shouldn’t be subjected to this nonsense

You deserve a follow. These sort of teams expect a certain type of play from Chelsea already. There's no urgency when moving the ball because of his pattern and they can just sit in their low block and we have to play through them so why not allow fullbacks roam

How about the problem with this ownership and the squad building? It's bloody tragic, we're about to be in a position where 4 summers in a row, we're asking for a GK, CB and ST...all whist having spent 1.6billion and having to rely on an 18 year old as our best attacker, yikes.

He plays to how he expects opponents to play, instead of focusing on building a clear pattern, that other teams have to counter, that is the tactical issue in my opinion, we are the better team we should have our style of play as our main goal!

Ngl niinii is spitting absolute facts. Like I can’t agree enough, bro even things like overlapping fallbacks will make a difference as little as it seems🤣but for some reason we don’t really do that consistently. The players also have a part to play in this tho. Very poor.

@Otulala001 Exactly. You can't even understand his formation. Reece was often found at the left side of the back 3, Gusto and Cucu were up high and there was a big gap in the middle.

I posted these two predictions or signs yesterday and guess which one came true?

You’re the first person i’ve seen who truly understands this. I’ve been saying this for about a year now and i said it when we were second and started struggling against teams like fulham last season. I said even tho we r a better team we will do worse itl but good in champs leg.

Spot on bro.. That’s why I think we will ever win a league title with Maresca no matter how good the team gets. We look too ordinary against teams we should be wiping the floor with. This is all down to Maresca over complicating things.

The attackers were just poor today. His tactics today was the same for other games, it’s just that palmer played and he was poor today that’s why. The attackers not taking shots is poor. 0 CORNERS in a game is outrageous . Thanks to Wes and Rob we actually stayed in the game.

Completely agree Nini

I totally agree. This is the only thing I see. Just keep it basic man.

Spot on. We make things difficult for ourselves. Everyone’s first option is to pass backwards before passing forward, which gives oppositions time to reset at the back while they press up front!. The tactic is too slow, predictable, and easy to defend against!

It’s that pep bs since he learned under pep he has that over complicating game with tactics

No overlapping players it’s boring to watch

The system is designed to create isolation for the wingers, but ends up isolating the wingers

You are the most educated of the young Youtubers i see on TV ..well done

It’s the players not pulling through and making individual errors

U can only play this style with best players in the lge otherwise it’s trashball creating so little for mediocre shooters of the ball

Pure football knowledge

We will get a counter and we will go forward and then pass the ball back and kill the counter.

Spot on. Against these kind of teams, our football becomes too robotic. There is no expression on the filed whatsoever, just playing to suit the game plan and that gives the opponent the edge cuz mistakes creeps in and they take advantage.

Where did you see the handcuffs? They didn't cross the ball They turned around when a player just stood there They didn't feed balls into space They didn't make simple passes (except between defenders and backwards) They didn't feed the open man I don't get how Enzo did anythin

This has literally been my point for over a decade now. Chelsea struggles because We just wanna control the game. And these small teams have built themselves for this over the years. Whip the ball to your striker, cause chaos and your wingers and midfielders pick the second balls
