Challenge Your Own Coaching Inspired 100% by Jamie Hamilton, Roger Bonet "Ruxi" & many others that keep bringing "Relationism" to the front of footballing discussions as the cure to boring "Positional" Play. I've been pretty obsessed with Positional Play, occupying areas, making the pitch big & exploiting through rotations and penetrating when a gap is created. So, last night decided to just chuck a curve-ball and see how players would react to trying to throw some combination ladders (A to C through B Dummy) and into a possession box promoting a point for success & what followed was: > Quick Successes after Untidy Chaos > Combination Play Improved > Players Scanning for Each Other > Going Into Crowded Areas It didn't quite transfer into the 8v8 with the big goals at the end but it has seemed to challenge players to play off 3rd players and combinations much quicker and with a more direct route through traffic. I may yet be converted 🤣

Scotland - Building out from the Back I feel like there is a huge lack of clarity in the way we play & that responsibility sits with coaches as much as the players: > Are Defenders to Play? > Are the "CDM's" to Show & Build? > Fullbacks Allowed to Find Space? I have watched McKenna & Hendry play out successfully in Belgium and Croatia with possession based teams and be good at it. I have watched Ferguson & McLean play in Top-5 Leagues and show for the ball and dictate play. Is this a lack of clarity, lack of coached "Style" or individual errors or a mixture of both?!

🔵 CHELSEA POSITIONAL PRACTICE: 8v8+6 From Training Today under Xabi Alonso Chelsea featured this positional setup in training today, focusing on structure to build play centrally. 📐 Dimensions • Two zones: 26 × 24 yards • Central linking zone: 4 yards ⚽ How It Works • Teams adopt the designated positional structure • Complete a set number of passes to score • Transfer the ball into the opposite zone for a bonus point after the set amount of passes is achieved. • The pressing team must regain possession and complete a pass to reverse roles • After winning the ball, players quickly organise into the required structure 🎯 Coaching Points • Maintain the positional structure • Create clear passing angles • Scan before receiving • Move the ball quickly to break lines • Recognize when to transfer zones • React quickly after winning possession 📌 Save it and follow us for all things football. Too much focus on overloaded practices, rondos and positional play inevitably leads to quick play and Group possession focus type outcomes. Also when do you let your players practice moving at full speed with the ball? This is where ball Mastery comes in and 1v1, 2v2 & 3v3 practices. I say the players I work with all the time. You should be able to move as quickly with the ball as you do without it, but unfortunately most Team sessions the ⚽️becomes like a hot potato.

In sudden-death overtime, making this kind of play with one of the best players in the country (Cornell's Willem Firth) fighting for the ball is next-level awesomeness. Cornell never had possession after this play, and Hopkins would score to move on to the Quarterfinals about a minute later.

Incredible insight from Luis Enrique when asked about Cesc Fabregas and his view that football is moving increasingly mainly towards movement patterns, manipulation of space and coordinated actions, rather than traditional positional play, which he believes is becoming a thing of the past. The modern game is less about where a player is positioned and more about when, why and how they move to an area of the pitch. The best teams are now defined by their ability to recognise the opponent’s structure, identify the spaces that can be attacked and then coordinate the timing of movement to exploit them. It is not movement for the sake of movement. It is movement with purpose, based on recognition, timing and collective understanding. Luis Enrique reinforces a fascinating principle he spoke about last season. The objective of modern football is to become unpredictable for the opponent while remaining completely predictable to your own teammates. That is the real challenge at the highest level. Creating freedom without losing organisation. Producing variation without creating chaos. Giving players the intelligence to adapt their positioning and movement while maintaining a shared understanding of what the team is trying to achieve. The future of elite football may not belong to the teams with the most rigid positional structure, but to the teams who can read the game fastest, manipulate space most intelligently and coordinate movement with the greatest precision.

Talk to them, Jimbo!! This is why I always said the Miami Dolphins do not reflect the culture of football in Miami. I cheer for the Dolphins because it's my hometown, but those jokers don't represent how we play football in Miami-Dade County. Softer than wet tissue paper and haven't brought winning to a city that is built on football. Mario built it the way we play at the crib after years of suffering!! 👆🏽👆🏽👆🏽👆🏽 They make people who are not from Miami question our toughness and love for football based on how they play the game. If Ross is serious, get all those business folks out of the football business; get us players that reflect the city.
