Nine years ago, Mehdi Hasan (Mehdi Hasan) interviewed Getachew Reda on Al Jazeera English about the EPRDF’s brutality, and Getachew used the exact same phrase he repeated yesterday: ‘Whatever the superlatives there…’ We wait with interest for the full release of this long-delayed interview, but the circumstances surrounding Getachew’s public pillorying are highly curious. This felt staged. Questionable figures like Kjetil Tronvoll, Tsedal Lemma, and others were parachuted in for what looks like a choreographed humiliation of Getachew Reda—perhaps to shield Abiy Ahmed. But why would Getachew agree to this? - Was it meant to divert the news cycle for a few days? - To cleanse Abiy of the ‘genocider’ label as he prepares for a confrontation with Eritrea? - Or did the whole plan backfire on both Getachew and Abiy, because of Mehdi's line of questioning? #Ethiopia #EritreaPrevails Neither Getachew nor Abiy can claim to have walked out of that interview smelling of roses.

He chose to work in Gaza to convey the suffering of his people and expose the crimes of the occupation, until he was assassinated by the Israeli warplane.
