My resolution to stop senators' pay during government shutdowns cleared a key procedural vote today, moving it one step closer to final passage. Fair-minded Americans know senators should feel the pain of a shutdown with the American people.

Seriously, with everybody under the impression that Congress does nothing other than day trading, we know that none of you are relying on your salary for anything.

Honestly John....yes, its a good idea but lets be real. Everyone in Congress are millionaires and we know why so they really dont give a crap about their paychecks. This looks like cover for Thune who is a traitor to his country.

What happened to the SAVE AMERICA ACT? Will you push just as hard to get it passed?

This is nice, but in reality theater. Most Senators don't need their pay anyway, and the bill simply witholds pay and when the shutdown ends pay is returned in full. I would rather see attention on replacing Thune, forcing a talking filibuster, and passing The SAVE America Act.

Cutting pay won't fix a shutdown because the real cost's the lost productivity and GDP drop. It's a symbolic gesture that doesn't actually move the needle on the budget.

The best way to prevent a shutdown is to stop STAFF pay and benefits with no back pay.
