Nothing touches the Morlocks for pure primal terror. That relentless underground hunt, dragging people screaming into the dark like cattle... straight nightmare fuel. Xenomorphs are close, but at least they’re alien. These were us once.
Absolutely agree — the fact that they're devolved humans makes it hit different. Xenomorphs are nightmare aliens, but Morlocks feel like a warning about where humanity could go. That underground farm scene is pure dread. Wells was cooking with this one "Why this works:
