Raynauds phenomenon. It is a condition that affects the blood flow to certain parts of the body, usually the fingers and toes, when exposed to cold or stress. It causes episodes of color changes, numbness, pain or tingling in the affected areas. There are two types of Raynaud’s phenomenon: primary and secondary. Primary Raynaud’s is the most common and mild form and it is not caused by any underlying disease. Secondary Raynaud’s is less common and more severe and it is associated with other medical conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, vascular diseases or injuries. The treatment depends on the type, severity and frequency of the symptoms, as well as the presence of any complications or other health problems. The main goals of treatment are to prevent or reduce the attacks, improve blood circulation and prevent tissue damage or infection. Some of the treatment options include: - Keeping warm and avoiding cold or stress triggers - Wearing gloves, socks or heated pads - Quitting smoking and limiting caffeine intake - Taking medications that dilate the blood vessels, such as nifedipine, amlodipine, or sildenafil - Applying topical creams or patches that contain nitroglycerin or capsaicin - Having surgery or injections to block the nerves that control the blood vessels - Having sympathectomy, a procedure that cuts or destroys the nerves that cause the blood vessels to narrow

There is a primary form of Raynaud’s phenomenon which is an isolated finding. Yet the secondary form is associated with autoimmune or connective tissue diseases e.g., SLE, RA, scleroderma, polymyositis, Sjögren, Buerger and other vasculopathies.
