Mandatory Country Of Origin Labeling on beef was rescinded in 2015, and since that time, American shelves have been flooded with beef labeled "Product of the USA," despite the fact that it was from animals born, raised and slaughtered overseas. It appears that after the first of this coming year, "Product of USA" will once again mean that the animals were born, raised and slaughtered in the United States of America. Unfortunately, this is not a mandatory ruling, so no country of origin is required to be put on the label. It is our hope that this small change will once again allow American farmers to differentiate domestic product from imported product.

But this isn't necessarily a good thing for ranchers. This just means the 4 large corporations who control 85 percent of the US beef market, 2 of them Brazilian owned, will import meat from other countries where they can source it cheaper. And because of our own laws, if it is repackaged in any way, it can be labeled product of the USA. This is especially unsettling for ground beef that can come from multiple countries, from different ages, and different breeds of older cows that any sort of untraceable diet. That shrimp can be frozen for who knows how long and imported in droves, then thawed and mixed in a large vat in a large processing plant with literally hundreds of different DNA samples landing in 1 pound of ground beef. Importing and exporting is not the problem. Americans like their hamburger, but not their heart. Traditional export markets are good for ranchers to get a premium for the unusual cuts that are more widely desired in foreign markets. But the American consumer deserves to know where their meat comes from and how it was raised. And there is an answer. Buy directly from a rancher in the USA. Find a ranch you can buy direct from locally or one who ships to your doorstep and start ordering now and trusting the source of the food you feed your family.”

The Nigerian government is sending people in Lagos back to their State of Origin. Let that sink in. They are dividing their own people, treating them as foreigners within their own country. This is not a policy of unity, it is a policy of exclusion. It is a testament to the deep-seated tribalism that has plagued Nigeria since independence. The Igbo, the Hausa, the Yoruba they cannot live together. They don’t trust each other, they don’t love each other. They cannot build a nation. This is why Nigeria will never be great, despite its immense potential. They have resources. They have the people. But they are divided by tribe, by religion, by region. They hate each other within their own country, and they refuse to confront this hatred. They would rather send people back to their "State of Origin" than build a nation where everyone belongs. This is not leadership, it is surrender. And until they confront this reality, Nigeria will remain a country of potential, not of progress. ✊🏾

NTSB investigators have given an update on the deadly plane crash that claimed the life of NASCAR star Greg Biffle and six other people, including his children, on Thursday morning. At Saturday’s press conference, officials confirmed that they still do not know the cause of the crash. “We do not know the circumstances which led the aircraft… to attempt to return to the airport, but that is the focus of our investigation,” officials said. They also confirmed that a text reading “Emergency landing” was sent from someone on the plane. “I can confirm that the NTSB is aware of one brief text from a passenger on board the aircraft to a family member that read, and I quote, ‘Emergency landing.'” “We are not aware of any other communications from passengers on board the aircraft to those on the ground.” The NTSB also says that at this time, it does not know who the pilot of the plane was.
