🕯 Nemtsov on Putin (2014) Nemtsov, who was killed by Putin back in 2014, about Putin: “He is afraid of principled people. He himself is deeply morally unprincipled. He considers all Russians to be nothing, worthless. He constantly tries to deceive and manipulate Europe, to pit Europe against the... show more

IGNATIUS: Putin is in corner. Things are not going well for him. What might he do to break out of this situation? His friend Trump is in the White House, and Europe is just beginning to rearm. Putin might think that now is the time to strike NATO. If he struck one of Baltic states and Trump did nothing, that would demonstrate to Europe and to the world that American promises to NATO aren't real. People are already beginning to suspect that, but this would make it clear. And Putin might seize this moment of uncertainty.

Trump: "President Putin is not afraid of Europe. He's afraid of the United States of America as led by me. There's no fear of Europe. Europe has fallen behind. Europe is a different place. Europe is changing. They have to be very careful with their immigration policies. I'll just say to be nice that there are certain place in Europe that are no longer recognizable."

Based speech by U.S. Senator Roger Wicker: As we seek a just end to this brutal, unprovoked war, I urge everyone in Washington, in Kyiv, in the great capitals of Europe to remain united and to remember who we are dealing with in the form and person of Vladimir Putin. Vladimir Putin is unrepentant. He is ever and will always be the KGB agent. He is a dictator with decades of bloodshed on his hands. He's the biggest thief in the history of the world, a war criminal who should be behind bars at this moment, Mr. President. And of course, Putin is a liar. When Vladimir Putin smiles to American negotiators, he acts as our friend and he acts as if we believe he's our friend. We have no reason to smile back at Vladimir Putin or trust him with anything but caution and contempt.

O'BRIEN: Trump likes dictators by nature. He seems quite in awe of Putin. There's something about Putin which makes Trump go little weak in the knees. Trump wants to be Putin's friend, gain Putin's approval. There might even be compromising issue that Russians might have on him. There's also been lifetime of deals between Trump and Russians, so he's built up a massive economic history of dealing with Russians. He clearly wants to get back to working with them. But all we can say is that when it comes to Putin, Trump is absolutely going to do what he wants to do. It doesn't matter what the public opinion is.

Putin is a good strategist - Zelensky's former advisor Arestovitch "Putin is neither the "imperial tyrant" that the West portrays, nor an irrational warman. He is a strategist, patient and rational, who has accepted NATO's provocations for 25 years without reacting by force. The West is constantly pushing it, but Putin remains committed to balanced diplomacy and international rules."

❗️Zelenskyy: "A great mistake is to allow an aggressor to take anything. I do not want to be the president who repeats the same mistakes." "This was a great mistake right at the beginning, from 2014. I can even say it was earlier — when they attacked and occupied part of Georgia, and even earlier — the occupation of Chechnya, the complete destruction, the killing of a million people — killed and wounded." Zelenskyy adds that Putin must be stopped by force, or he will return with an even bigger war. "You cannot stop Putin with kisses or anything like that, with flowers. [...] My advice to everyone is not to do this with Putin, otherwise it will be the first step. Then in five years he will upgrade his army, increase the number of soldiers, his army will be well-trained."

Russian propagandist Simonyan talks about the great sacred war that is not being fought against Ukraine. Take a listen. Putin and his inner circle have stopped talking about peace and negotiations and are raising the stakes. They speak of a "great and sacred war" against Europe and NATO. Why is this happening? It is a consequence of Russia’s failures on the Ukrainian front, where Russians are not advancing and are losing more and more soldiers - over 35,000 every month, more than they recruit - while Ukrainians are expanding the kill zone. It is the growing economic problems and the realization that Russia is heading toward collapse. It is the realization that everyone involved in the war will be punished after it ends, which means they cannot allow the war to end. Putin’s inner circle is aware of this dead-end situation. But Putin himself does not know the real picture, because people are afraid to tell him the truth. Therefore, Putin is convinced that he is winning the war. In addition, he sees that the United States is currently focused on the war in Iran and is no longer reacting to massive attacks on Ukraine and hybrid attacks in Europe. By the way, it is quite possible that the latest attack on Kyiv was organized personally for Putin - to give him the satisfaction of seeing Kyiv burning, especially after the humiliating May 9 parade in Moscow - but in reality, this attack achieved no military objectives and was a waste of millions. In this situation, with no real military successes in Ukraine, Putin’s inner circle, out of fear, may develop a desire to continue the war in a new direction - for example against the Baltic states - so that Putin stops asking about Donbas and Mala Tokmachka. The greater the defeat, the higher the stakes.

Putin Rejects Trump Ceasefire: Defeat Could Cost Him Power: Trump and Putin spoke today for an hour. The topic is obvious: Trump wants a ceasefire, while Putin will not accept one until Russia’s war aims are met. For Putin this is not about peace. It is about staying in power. Concessions to the U.S. and Ukraine would look like defeat and could bring him down. That is why he will keep fighting. He reportedly said Russia has no aggressive plans toward Europe. Those words should not be believed. If Putin ever concludes he is losing control at home, he is ready to gamble on a wider war with Europe and NATO to survive.

President Zelenskyy: Ukraine did not choose this war and it's wrong to assume that this is a permanent arrangement that others can stay safe behind Ukraine forever. Ukrainians are people, not terminators. That is why we are doing everything to stop this war and to guarantee security. But the problem is this. Putin is no longer interested in anything else. Putin does not live like ordinary people. He doesn't walk the streets. You will not see him in a cafe. Putin consults more with Tsar Peter and Empress Catherine about territorial gains than with any living person about real, real life. Can you imagine Putin without war? Be honest. Right now his focus is on Ukraine and no one in Ukraine believes he will ever let our people go. But he will not let other European nations go either because he cannot let go of the very idea of war. He may see himself as a Tsar but in reality he is a slave to war.

♦️ Zelensky will not compromise with Putin. The President reminded that in 2014, Putin claimed he had no intention of launching a full-scale war against Ukraine. 'Everything he says is untrue. He is not interested in an independent Ukraine. I cannot bargain with someone whose word is worth nothing. There are no guarantees,' said Volodymyr Zelensky.

There were two large-scale attacks by Russia this week—absolutely brazen actions, through which Russia is demonstrating that without pressure from the world, there will be no end to the war. And these are all clear signals to the United States, to Europe, and to the leaders who these days are in China and will be meeting with Putin. We expect the need for a ceasefire—to signal Russiaʼs readiness for diplomacy—will be raised at these meetings. Putin is only duping leaders and drawing them into his camp. And he is staving off the threat of sanctions. Nothing else interests him. It is important that together we press Russia into ending this war.
