3I/ATLAS SPOTTED ON SOLAR CORONAGRAPH! First spotted by amateur astronomer Worachate Boonplod (see top comment), I then analyzed the last 7 days of CCOR-1 footage and 3I/ATLAS is clearly observed (circled in red) at the edges of the coronagraph where the brightness of the solar wind is minimal. Close examination shows this object moving in a retrograde direction faster than the background stars and along the expected vector as 3I/ATLAS based on prior astronomical measurements. In prior videos I mentioned that it was a possibility that 3I/ATLAS would be visible on coronagraphs, but I didn't peg it at a high likelihood due to it's apparent magnitude being ~10. Very cool to see our interstellar visitor still on course and behaving "normally", though the Sun is certainly in frenzy blasting 3I/ATLAS with BIG coronal mass ejections! #3IATLAS #astronomy #spaceweather

Here’s your space weather report for the week of April 17 - 23: •6 M-class flares •0 C-class flares •34 coronal mass ejections •1 geomagnetic storm This video from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) shows the week’s activity. Two X-class flares erupted right after the end of this reporting period — they’ll be first up in next week’s space weather report! Another thing we *don’t* see here: comet PANSTARRS (C/2025 R3)! The comet is currently passing between the Sun and Earth, and ESA/NASA’s SOHO spacecraft is watching the comet as it streaks across the view of its C3 coronagraph. This week’s X-class flare, at about 1:23 in the video below, is particularly photogenic because of its location on the Sun’s limb, or edge. This positioning gave SDO a clear view of a suspended strand of solar plasma, known as a prominence, against the blackness of space as it erupted with the flare. More imagery and information about that flare:
