New demo! I made this prototype that generates different “mosaic” layouts, and designed some new zoom transitions, too! Wave/UIKit. Fully interruptible and always runs at 120hz.

Notes: – I love how the zoom transition “pushes” other elements away, allowing the expanded image to grow – Took some perf optimization, since it’s relatively expensive for 1) UIKit to resize a bunch of image views every frame, and 2) for CA to alpha-composite them over each other. So it avoids both!

Interruptibility goes such a long way to improving UX, pretty much every animation should be interruptible. It’s dreadful when they aren’t.

Good grief - this is amazing. These are springs with NSLayoutConstraint updates? or are you directly editing Frame and Bounds?

Thanks! Directly setting frames, no AL.

That’s so nice and smooth. I’d love to see this in a moodboard app or something.
