Protip - there's an emergency shutoff on every pump at the station... normally a big red button that says "emergency shutoff" Use that. Unless you live in New Jersey and are forced to be an adult child.

At every gas station there's a big red emergency shut-off button nearby. It's required by law. You can also push the lever on the pump where the handle goes. You can also pull the pump hose out of the pump and it has an emergency shut-off valve that stops the flow to the hose.

Amateur tip: If these flaps are available, just press it in for emergency stop.
