The wheat manages spring moisture like living pattern tile to allow earlier more fit planting, weed control. The soybeans grow well with a disciplined 80/20 wheat crop. The space allows for equity accrual 80-90 days gets us to 12-14 nodes with young pods at wheat harvest Harvest opens up sunlight for the beans acting like a turbo on a diesel engine… and the wheat also acts as a trellis to support expansive branching. Year #11 and we’re always learning… lots of people trying this out and making it work on their operation. If this is of interest come to my farm this Saturday and walk the fields yourself #farmweird

What is 2nd order thinking? It’s considering the reactions of your actions. Relay cropping is done wrong 100% of the time when 2nd order thinking isn’t considered. Plant wheat at 25% population in wider blocks and retain more soybean yield… with SIGNIFICANTLY less costs. That’s the whole point. If you want to glitch the minds of folks saying that wheat is cheap… agree with them. Right now with our seed costs… and low amounts of fertility we’re sitting at $40/ac. If I can cut $150-$200/ac in wheat crop costs by doing everything agronomically sound, planting early, and intentional I can give up 30-40 bu/ac and be in the same economic position. The difference is the soybean crop has $300-$400 more profitable potential from yield and weed control.

A new year brings feelings of hope and change. This coming year, we pray that Palestine is liberated, and that we have sovereignty over our land. A big part of indigenous sovereignty is our connection to our land. For Palestinian communities to build our own food and agricultural systems, and to put the farmers and consumers over markets and external control. In collaboration with our partners, Arab Protection for Nature, The Sameer Project invested in a local agricultural project growing 20 donoms of wheat. This can yield into 6-8 tons of wheat. The project was done on farmland in the Masdar area, Central Gaza, and cost us $5,450, which includes 9% commission. With hopes of entering the second phase of the ceasefire that will hopefully bring more stability and predictability, The Sameer Project is looking to collaborate more with APN on sustainable projects. Water. Our #1 ingredient in making grain. Heavy rain is heavy. It quickly compacts the top of the soil. Rain that hits a plant 1st has a softer landing. Excess water that intercepts a 12" tall wheat row has to slow down and navigate around. Growing crops drink more... a lot more than nothing does. Why I spend a couple days planting seeding rates 30-40% of standard monocrop wheat is to capture more water out of the year...not just the June-August time period where we "want it to rain". Anyway...wheat can like any other crop drowned out... or lose Nitrogen.... but if you really value time and get it planted early in the fall... or in the summer between wide row corn. You don't need a lot of investment out there to just get another 10-20" more water on your P+L That's my jam
