New science results confirm our #DARTMission's asteroid deflection technology can be an effective way to change the orbit of an asteroid, should there ever be a threat. The DART spacecraft intentionally slammed into asteroid Dimorphos in Sept. 2022:

Plus, Hubble got a front-row seat to the action! This time-lapse shows the aftermath of DART’s impact, revealing hour-by-hour changes as dust and chunks of debris were flung into space. Over 1,000 tons of dust and rock blasted off the asteroid:

Changed trajectory by how much though?

DART's impact changed the asteroid's orbit by 33 mins. Before, Dimorphos' orbit period around Didymos was 11hrs 55mins. After, scientists determined it to be 11hrs 22mins. This means DART was a success and a big step toward the goal of preventing future asteroid strikes on Earth.

That was fun to watch when it happened; the approach until the camera died.

These wonders take my breath away. As Arthur Clarke said (or was it Asimov?): "Science can hardly be differentiated from magic" Go NASA!

Absolutely amazing 👏 Can you destroy spy balloons 🎈 before they cross the United States 🇺🇸

Now we have to stop what will be aimed at us from Iran

Satellite are more helpful also danger in the form of astroids.....🙄

highly unlikely
