John Cornyn told reporters Tuesday following the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote to advance Todd Blanche's attorney general nomination that “there's nothing we could do” to rein in President Donald Trump. “Well, there's nothing we could do to rein in the president when he said he likes the fund and he wishes it still exists. Thom Tillis tells me it’s more likely than not that tomorrow’s vote to advance Todd Blanche for AG is delayed. “With the passing time, it's gonna be difficult for me to think that we can get all this language ironed out and then get everybody — to be fair to DOJ, there are several parties that they have to work with once you get the language. You know about the $1.8 billion slush fund he tried to create to reward his political allies. They got so much pushback that they’ve halted that, at least for now. But what you probably don’t know is that Trump gave himself, his family, and his businesses complete immunity from IRS audits, past and future. Everyone focused on the slush fund, and almost nobody noticed the audit immunity. It’s still in place, and it cannot be allowed to stand.

Based on the optics from today at the DOJ, Trump and his team made a conscious effort to make it clear he trusts AG Pam Bondi. He knows what people have been saying online. He knows many are critical of Bondi. Today, he made an effort to show he supports her. I know everyone has an opinion about how to run the government and how to drain the swamp, but ultimately, Trump is the one who gets to make those decisions. He has a plan, and the American People chose him to carry out said plan. If Bondi is compromised or not accomplishing what Trump wants, Trump will know about it LONG before we do, and it will be up to him to correct it. But for the time being, Trump just made a pretty clear statement today that the DOJ under his new administration will be different, and that he has faith in his appointees such as Bondi and Kash. If you disagree with Trump’s appointees or his plan, then in four years, you can vote for someone else, but until then, you’ve got no choice but to trust Trump, and he trusts Bondi.
