The numbers in the post actually accurately reflect the January 2026 paper in Frontiers in Nutrition. That said, context matters: the study was done on young-to-middle-aged adults (18–45) who specifically had poor sleep quality, and it was funded by the patent owner of Magtein. Also, the '7.5 years younger' metric is just an algorithmic score mapping on cognitive testing, not physical brain rejuvenation. Great headline numbers, but worth looking at the fine print!

Scientists on the internet without any knowledge on clinical medical practice, selling supplements that they endorse, using misinformation masquerading as "solid peer reviewed science." Check this video out, when Huberman bullshits everyone in just half a minute on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. Before I go on, please remember this The Bullshit Asymmetry Principle, also known as Brandolini’s Law, states that the amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it. Which means, I have to put extra effort just to debunk the 36 seconds of that podcast. First, a little about sleep disorders Sleep disorders are of different types and due to different causes. The diagnosis is simply not "I can't sleep" and so here, take this sleep cocktail. Many patients come with sleep disorders that are associated with other conditions. For example, cirrhosis patients have sleep disorders that require management with ammonia lowering therapies and severe cases can only be reversed with a liver transplant. Patients with alcohol use disorders have sleep disorders that require management with de-addiction therapies along with sedatives. Sleep disorders in the ICU set up has different causes. People with mental health disorders have associated sleep disorders. Certain sleep disorders have no identifiable causes and are called "idiopathic." Which means, coming on a podcast and blindly giving out a "sleep cocktail" to millions of viewers, who may be suffering from a sleep disorder which has an as yet unidentified cause, is one of the most foolish things one can do. And Huberman, not being an actual clinical doctor, makes that exact mistake. Huberman claims (very generally and casually), melatonin helps you to go to sleep, but does not maintain sleep. But "solid peer reviewed" studies have much more to say about melatonin. Melatonin improved sleep onset latency and total sleep time in children/adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders. Melatonin also improved and sleep onset latency and total sleep time in adults with delayed sleep phase disorder. Treatment with melatonin has positive effects on sleep quality in adults with respiratory diseases, metabolic disorders, primary sleep disorders, not with mental disorders, neurodegenerative diseases and other diseases. This meta-analysis demonstrated that melatonin decreases sleep onset latency, increases total sleep time and improves overall sleep quality. Another large meta-analysis showed that melatonin dosing and timing matters: for circadian phase advancement, an earlier time and smaller dose, but for sleep quality/consolidation a larger and later dose seemed appropriate. See here: So melatonin does increase total sleep time, total sleep quality and reduces time to sleep and has beneficial effects in specific groups of patients. Now the "solid peer reviewed studies" on the cocktail - which Huberman claims on three supplements - magnesium threonate, apigenin and L-theanine. Unfortunately, such "solid peer-reviewed papers" DO NOT EXIST. Lets see. Magnesium supplements: First of all, there is no conclusive evidence that magnesium, dietary or supplemented has any actual effect on sleep. Randomized clinical trials showed an uncertain association between magnesium supplementation and sleep disorders. See here: Forget sleep, magnesium has absolutely no evidence for involvement even in mood disorders. See here: This review confirms that the quality of literature is substandard for physicians to make well-informed recommendations on usage of oral magnesium for older adults with insomnia. See here: Apigenin (from Chamomille): The possible sleep inducing effects of apigenin is still speculative. There are absolutely no solid peer reviewed studies or evidence for benefits of apigenin in sleep as Huberman claims. See here: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial showed that chamomille DID NOT have conclusive effects on sleep. See here: Even better, a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials and quasi-randomized trials showed that there was very little evidence to show effect of chamomille on insomnia. See here: L-theanine supplements: There is absolutely NO study or data to suggest that L-theanine is useful for sleep induction, improving sleep quality or increasing total sleep time. The only studies that are of "better quality" shows that L-theanine "maybe" useful in reducing anxiety/ stress levels due to caffeine at night. See here and here The only other "study" on L-theanine which was done on mice and not humans showed effects only on brain related biomarkers and were not applicable in the clinical sense to humans - And coming to SOLID EVIDENCE on the "Huberman cocktail" - there is absolutely nothing in published literature to confirm that it works and there is no convincing mode of action of this cocktail in humans. A large systematic review and meta-analysis showed that Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Insomnia was the best and not some random supplements proclaimed on a podcast by half-baked scientists who are full time supplement sellers. See here: There are basic scientists, with no or half-baked clinical practice knowledge, trying to sell you a bunch of useless supplements that they endorse for a paid-commission, using "science-sounding" words without any practical, rational or logical meaning; and push untested and unregulated therapies that are NEVER recommended, approved or promoted by any active, medical, scientific clinical societies worldwide. They are worse than pseudoscience peddlers. Be aware of where you find your health information. There is pseudoscience, but then there is also another terrible type of misinformation: BAD SCIENCE.

🚨New science DEBATE released on HIGH CARB vs KETO: What the new Tim Noakes vs Louise Burke debate actually shows 👇 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition just released it big debate between two of the biggest names in exercise performance asking one loaded question: does a low-carbohydrate diet impair endurance performance? On one side is Louise Burke, one of the most influential sports nutrition researchers in the world. Her argument: yes, low carb can impair performance? She is not saying every athlete must eat high-carb all the time. She is saying performance depends on the event, intensity, environment, training status, sex, and the athlete in front of you. Her biggest physiological point is fuel economy. Near an athlete’s oxidative ceiling (i.e., elite race pace), she argues that carbohydrate produces more usable energy per liter of oxygen than fat. So even if keto adaptation dramatically raises fat oxidation, that does not automatically mean better speed or power. Now I am skeptical of this point, since we have conducted Randomized Controlled Trails in both runners and ironman competitors and showed that athletes at 86% of their VO2max can utilize fat as the predominant fuel while on a very low carb diet and STILL maintain performance. On the other side, Tim Noakes argues: low carb does not necessarily impair performance when athletes are adapted long enough. He points out that many “keto hurts performance” studies are short, often under four weeks, and that several randomized trials lasting four to six weeks report similar performance between high-carb and low-carb groups. He also reframes fatigue. Instead of saying muscle glycogen is always the main limiter, he argues that during prolonged exercise, maintaining blood glucose, the small glucose pool is the most important. In our trial, 10 grams of carbohydrate per hour improved prolonged cycling performance after both diets. Noakes and Burke also did something really special: they developed a CONSENSUS article where they explored key points of AGREEMENT and DISAGREEMENT for future research. This is the coolest part and in my opinion was one of the verty unique aspect of these three studies My take is this: It is not "team high carb" versus "team keto." The weight of the evidence demonstrates that 1) BOTH high and low carb diets can work, and that 2) Carbohydrates during prolonged exercise are valuable...but 3) How this is applied depends on the individual athlete. "Vilhjalmur Stefansson documented the fact that the Inuit diet was about 90% meat and fish. Inuit would often go six to nine months a year eating nothing but fatty meat and fresh fish. Stefansson found that he and his fellow explorers were also perfectly healthy on such a diet. Some years after his first experience with the Inuit, Stefansson returned to the Arctic with a colleague, Dr. Karsten Anderson, to carry out research for the American Museum of Natural History. They were supplied with every necessity, including a year's supply of 'civilised' food. They declined, electing instead to live off the land. In the end, the one-year project stretched to four years, during which time the two men ate only the meat they could kill and the fish they could catch in the Canadian Arctic. Neither of the two men suffered any adverse after-effects from their four-year experiment. Stefansson deduced, as had William Banting, that the body could function, remain healthy, vigorous, and slender if a diet in which as much food was eaten as the body required, with only carbohydrates restricted and the total number of calories ignored. To combat erroneous conventional beliefs about diet, Stefansson and his fellow explorer Karsten Anderson agreed to undertake an official study to demonstrate that they could eat a 100% meat diet in a closely observed laboratory setting for the first several weeks. For the rest of an entire year, paid observers followed them to ensure dietary compliance. There were no deficiency problems while eating only the kind of fatty meat they requested. The results were published. During this experiment his intake had varied between 2,000 and 3,100 calories per day and he derived an average of almost 80% of his energy from animal fat and almost 20% from animal protein. Creatine is for Brain Power, not Just Muscle Power A New RCT just dropped looking at creatine hydrochloride (HCl) and creatine ethyl ester (CEE) on cognitive outcomes (PMID: 40854087). Researchers gave perimenopausal women 8 weeks of either low-dose creatine HCl (750 mg or 1.5 g / day), a blend of HCl + CEE, or placebo. 👉 The 1.5 g HCl group showed small but significant improvements in reaction time and even a ~16% increase in frontal brain creatine levels on MRS scans. The HCl + CEE combo didn’t outperform HCl alone. All forms were well-tolerated and there were no serious side effects. The results add to growing evidence that creatine supports cognition—not just strength, hypertrophy, and power—but let’s keep perspective: ⚠️ Creatine ethyl ester has consistently underperformed in bioavailability studies. Multiple head-to-head trials show it’s rapidly degraded to creatinine in the gut and fails to meaningfully raise muscle creatine compared to creatine monohydrate (PMID:19228401). Creatine HCl seems to dissolve better in water and some anecdotal reports claim it’s easier on digestion for some people, but so far there’s no solid evidence it improves muscle or brain creatine stores beyond what you get with monohydrate. Bottom line: this study is promising for the cognitive benefits of creatine overall, but it doesn’t change the main recommendation Creatine monohydrate is still the gold standard. It’s the form used in hundreds of human RCTs, proven to raise muscle and brain creatine, and it’s cheap. Until stronger data show otherwise, save your money and stick with monohydrate.

And he’s about to detonate that phrase from the inside. For eight decades, artificial intelligence followed the same brutal script. Hype builds. Money floods in. The technology fails to deliver. The entire field collapses. In 1943, the first neural network paper proved mathematical models of brain cells could perform any logical computation. Revolutionary on paper. Dead on arrival. In 1956, scientists secured a grant to spend ten weeks at Dartmouth believing they could build AGI by the end of summer. They did not. In the 1980s, corporations poured over a billion dollars into “expert systems” designed to replicate human decision-making. By 1987, the entire market cratered. Like this is the culmination of 80 years worth of work and this is the time it’s becoming real.” Eighty years. Researchers spent entire careers chasing this problem and died before seeing it solved. Generations of scientists poured their finite lives into a theory that kept collapsing under its own promise. And now all four pieces arrived at once. The people calling this a bubble are running the same playbook that was correct every other time. But every other time, the technology wasn’t working. This time it is. Day 17 of tracking my formally registered footpath complaint. I didn't want to post this video. I have been sitting on it for more than two weeks. The whole point of filing the complaint formally was to go about this process via the official channels that have been built for this exact purpose. My assumption was that BBMP Sahaaya was built for the convenience of the people of Bengaluru. But the last 17 days have revealed to me that it isn't working as intended. Countless people have replied to my posts saying, "I filed a complaint on the app and it was closed without explanation and without action taken." Stuff like potholes. Broken footpaths. Encroached pedestrian infra. Burning of trash. Piles of litter. Maybe some of these get resolved. I have not seen the statistics. Maybe the city is up to its neck in grievances and simply doesn't have the manpower to tackle them all. I love India. And I know that videos like this one do not paint the country in a positive light. But I also think it's important to recognise areas that could benefit from improvement. If they aren't highlighted continuously, it signals that everyone is ok with this reality. It signals that this is fine, that it's normal. And it isn't. This is not normal, nor is it ok. This is an apocalyptic level of deterioration. This broken infrastructure is a total embarrassment, not just for Bengaluru or Karnataka, but for India. And this didn't happen yesterday. This footpath broke a long time ago. It has been sitting like this for months. This is just one example of hundreds of thousands of spots like this. India has so much potential. But it's being held back. Its growth is being stunted by inaction and sluggish responses to issues like these. India is being held back by apathy. Honestly, my hope was that I'd be able to use the footage in this video for a before/after video, showing the improvement the city made when they came in to fix the footpath after receiving my complaint. I really wanted this to be a positive story! And I still intend for it to be, it's just taking way longer than expected... As many of you know, on Day 15 the case was closed with a very unsatisfactory fix. I feel that the bare minimum was done. Just enough work to be able to close the case. But nowhere near enough work to actually make the footpath walkable for pedestrians, especially people who are differently-abled, elderly, or parents pushing strollers. I am still optimistic that this will be resolved. I will keep highlighting the status of the grievance each day until it's fixed.

The most interesting part for me is where Andrej Karpathy describes why LLMs aren't able to learn like humans. As you would expect, he comes up with a wonderfully evocative phrase to describe RL: “sucking supervision bits through a straw.” A single end reward gets broadcast across every token in a successful trajectory, upweighting even wrong or irrelevant turns that lead to the right answer. > “Humans don't use reinforcement learning, as I've said before. I think they do something different. Reinforcement learning is a lot worse than the average person thinks. Reinforcement learning is terrible. It just so happens that everything that we had before is much worse.” So what do humans do instead? > “The book I’m reading is a set of prompts for me to do synthetic data generation. It's by manipulating that information that you actually gain that knowledge. We have no equivalent of that with LLMs; they don't really do that.” > “I'd love to see during pretraining some kind of a stage where the model thinks through the material and tries to reconcile it with what it already knows. There's no equivalent of any of this. This is all research.” Why can’t we just add this training to LLMs today? > “There are very subtle, hard to understand reasons why it's not trivial. If I just give synthetic generation of the model thinking about a book, you look at it and you're like, 'This looks great. Why can't I train on it?' You could try, but the model will actually get much worse if you continue trying.” > “Say we have a chapter of a book and I ask an LLM to think about it. It will give you something that looks very reasonable. But if I ask it 10 times, you'll notice that all of them are the same.” > “You're not getting the richness and the diversity and the entropy from these models as you would get from humans. How do you get synthetic data generation to work despite the collapse and while maintaining the entropy? It is a research problem.” How do humans get around model collapse? > “These analogies are surprisingly good. Humans collapse during the course of their lives. Children haven't overfit yet. They will say stuff that will shock you. Because they're not yet collapsed. But we [adults] are collapsed. We end up revisiting the same thoughts, we end up saying more and more of the same stuff, the learning rates go down, the collapse continues to get worse, and then everything deteriorates.” In fact, there’s an interesting paper arguing that dreaming evolved to assist generalization, and resist overfitting to daily learning - look up The Overfitted Brain by Erik Hoel. I asked Karpathy: Isn’t it interesting that humans learn best at a part of their lives (childhood) whose actual details they completely forget, adults still learn really well but have terrible memory about the particulars of the things they read or watch, and LLMs can memorize arbitrary details about text that no human could but are currently pretty bad at generalization? > “[Fallible human memory] is a feature, not a bug, because it forces you to only learn the generalizable components. LLMs are distracted by all the memory that they have of the pre-trained documents. That's why when I talk about the cognitive core, I actually want to remove the memory. I'd love to have them have less memory so that they have to look things up and they only maintain the algorithms for thought, and the idea of an experiment, and all this cognitive glue for acting.”
