Jake this happens to far too many people around the whole country and not just to people who are starting an "animal sanctuary." Normal, everyday people find displaced baby squirrel and care enough to try and save thier lives, same as Mark started out. He didn't start out wanting a sanctuary, it comes after finding one of these precious babies, raising it and loving it and with that love comes the purpose of wanting to save more lives. Most people don't have the property or room to start a sanctuary, but feel the love and desire to save these precious lives. Many hundreds and thousands of other normal everyday people have had this done to them. Should they not matter too? Should they not have the same protection? Squirrels do not carry rabies or any other diseases harmful to humans. There has never been 1 case of a squirrel transmitting rabies to a human in the history of our country. Since the founding of our country, squirrels were a beloved pet in every home and even president's Warren G Harding and Harry S Truman had pet squirrels IN the White House and there were no USDA Licensed breeders, they were all wilds! There were no laws or regulations banning having squirrels until California banned them and spread their disinformation around the country and other states followed suit! Squirrels are no more dangerous than a pet rat, hampster or gerbil that you can buy in any pet shop. I do not want to see squirrels in pet shops but the rules banning you from having one need to be removed and wild squirrels be legal again. Perhaps have a permit to have them with a test to ensure the proper knowledge to raise them and take care of them. That would be a nice source of government funding too, but no inspections required, nobody needs stormtroopers coming into their homes and nobody needs a license or permit anyway for any other type of rodent. I honestly believe it's a constitutional right in the first place, you know, the whole "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness thing?" Unless you have known and had a relationship with a squirrel, you'd never know how much more special, loving and amazing they are than any other animal. If you believe in God, I'll tell you he works in mysterious ways and sometimes a baby squirrel is the angel he sends to save someone's life. I've known people who were in deep depression, even suicidal and at the right moment, God sent them a baby squirrel and saved their lives. Completely changing their lives and giving them a renewed love and purpose in life! Free and protect all the squirrels, not just those in sanctuaries because that person at home who found a baby squirrel in their yard is where the magic takes place and where the desire to become a rehabber or a sanctuary. Millions of people around the country have squirrels and live in fear that some stormtroopers are going to come for them next. That's not right when they're just trying to save lives and live their own lives in the privacy of their own homes which should be off limits to the government anyway unless they're harming someone else outside in some way. I cant understand how someone is allowed to own 20' pythons, venomous insects and snakes in their homes but not a harmless squirrel? I honestly believe its only about control. Prove me wrong and protect all citizens from the intrusion, having their animals taken and murdered. It's shattering people all around the country! Peanut is far, far from the first. Nobody hears about the rest because they're not famous. There was a woman completely devastated by this once. She had a beautiful pet squirrel she'd found and raised from a baby. She took great care of it. Her daughter got mad at her and called on her, the same thing happened and she was shattered! Do the right thing!

@pthe_squirrel @GovKathyHochul This needs to be retweeted so people can call their lawmakers to get onboard to change the aggressive laws that allowed these pets on a sanctuary farm to be removed and euthanized. We also need transparency of what happened.
