A candidate, named Kulsum Bano, says, "I have come from Beawar to take the NEET exam. When I took the exam on May 3rd, I was in the same attire then as I am now: wearing a burqa and a dupatta. Initially, they said I would have to remove the dupatta to enter; then they insisted I had to remove the burqa as well. If the NTA has permitted us, these people cannot stop us... If I am to take the exam and they don't allow me in this attire, then I simply won't take it... It is shameful that they are messing with 18-year-olds like this... The exam doesn't matter to me; what matters is my 'burqa' and my identity."

The Candidates who appeared for the WBPSC Exam for getting recruited to the post of Food & Supplies Service Sub-Inspector have been raising their voice against the West Bengal Public Service Commission for quite some time now. Their allegation is that Exam conducted conducted in the month of March 2024 was marred by various irregularities including the examination paper getting leaked before the exam. They are also complaining that every time the exam is being held, the number of vacant posts get lesser. As the Leader of the Opposition, I am extending my support to their rightful agitation and would like to assure them of any help, including getting them access to the best legal support available in the future. The State of West Bengal has repeatedly failed to conduct any and every recruitment exam properly, which result in stress & anxiety for the eligible candidates.

Emotional scenes unfolded at #NEET (UG) Re-examination centres in #Telangana as parents were seen pleading with security personnel and police officers after #NEETaspirants were denied entry for arriving just 1-2 minutes late. In one incident, a father pleaded with officials, fell at the feet of police, after his daughter was reportedly denied entry for reaching the centre just 2 minutes late in Keesara, Medchal district. The father said the delay occurred after Google Maps directed them along the wrong route. In another incident, a mother fell at the feet of security guards, begging them to allow her daughter to take the exam in Jagtial district. Two female NEET aspirants were also denied entry at the JNTU, in KPHB exam center in Hyderabad due to arriving just a few minutes late. Despite pleading with the officials to be let in. However officials were didn't allowed to enter. If the Central government had exercised this level of strictness regarding the paper leak, the aspirants wouldn't have had to give the exam again.

It is very unlikely that any problem should happen with the conduct of the examination. So, I assure to all students and my best wishes to all students for this forthcoming NEET-PG exam on 30th August on behalf of National Board of Examinations of Medical Sciences, NMC and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare." There will be 0 fees for the upcoming examination... Prima facie, the NTA has decided to give students one week to choose their preferred examination city again... Keeping students’ convenience and time constraints in mind, the NTA has decided to extend the examination duration by 15 minutes. The exam, which was scheduled from 2 pm to 5 pm, will now continue till 5.15 pm..." He also says, "The admit cards for this examination will be issued to all candidates by June 14... The Government of India will speak to the states regarding the arrangement of transport facilities for students, and I will also personally speak with Chief Ministers so that students face minimal difficulties in transportation during the NEET examination this time... I'm sure most of us have, at least once in our lives, woken up terrified from a dream where we missed an exam because we were late. We all know that sinking feeling in the pit of the stomach, the panic, helplessness, and regret. That's why this video is so painful to watch. These students missed their NEET after getting stuck in a political rally in Bengaluru. Many would argue that since it wasn't their fault, they should have been allowed to enter. After all, they wouldn't have gained any advantage, they would simply have had less time to write the exam. I understand that sentiment. It comes from a place of empathy, and that's a good thing. But large public exams cannot be run purely on emotions. They require clear, objective, and uniformly enforced rules. The purpose of a reporting-time cutoff isn't to punish late candidates; it's to ensure that every candidate is treated according to the same standard. Once exceptions begin, the rule itself loses meaning. Why allow someone 5 minutes late but not 15? Why make an exception for one reason and not another? Imagine the chaos at thousands of exam centre if you leave entry time to discretion! In exams involving lakhs of candidates, fairness lies not in evaluating individual circumstances but in applying the same rule to everyone without discretion. To add, centers are designed to complete security checks, identity verification, seating, and other protocols before the process begins; late admissions create operational and security complications and undermine confidence in the integrity of the exam. It's heartbreaking for the students. One can sympathize with them and still accept that the authorities were right to enforce the cutoff. Sometimes a decision can be both unfortunate and correct at the same time.

After checking, a phone was recovered from her. After recovering the phone, she informed the center superintendent, who then informed us. Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived at the scene, questioned the student, and examined the phone. Her question paper was also examined. During the investigation, it was revealed that her intention was to use the phone to obtain answers to certain questions through an AI or search engine and then fill in the answers. In this entire case, no involvement of any other person has been found. It's a non-bailable offense. She was arrested and produced before the court, from where she was sent to judicial custody...We will conduct a detailed investigation into this matter to determine whether the personnel there were negligent or not. However, the evidence we have uncovered so far does not suggest any involvement. A desperate attempt was made by a student to pass the exam, and in that desperation, she took this foolish step, which is illegal. Therefore, legal action is being taken by filing a case against her. I can say this with complete certainty. The paper didn't reach anyone during the exam, and the entire phone was confiscated on the spot..."

In this "RAW DISPATCH FROM MY DESK" i reflect on Twenty-three lakh students or 2.3 million students who will not sleep well tonight in one of the world’s fastest rising powers. Why? Because the government finds it difficult to ensure the integrity of an exam that will decide the course of their lives. Yes, for all its pretensions of being a world power, India cannot hold an exam without the fear of a question paper leak. The NEET exam for 2026 now stands cancelled and the students will be re-tested, re-traumatised. All it took was a paltry sum of Rs 5 lakhs to ensure that cheats got hold of the paper or at least large sections of it that reportedly matched the actual NEET paper “word for word, comma for comma”. The NEET ecosystem has repeatedly faced allegations of leaks, malpractice and compromised integrity over the past decade. Investigators claim that the paper was circulating days before the exam in WhatsApp groups as a “guess paper”. The question is how did a paper allegedly copied at a printing press in Nashik travel across multiple states including Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and Kerala without the NTA detecting a single breach? And if the paper is so easily accessed every so often, isn’t it evident that organised rackets have penetrated India’s examination ecosystem under the NTA’s watch? What is surprising is that not one top NTA official has offered to hold him or herself to account. Not one has offered to step down voluntarily. In fact, when the question was repeatedly asked of Abhishek Singh, the DG of the NTA , he was evasive. The point is a simple one: given the scale of its repeated failures, does the NTA understand that every leak destroys not just an exam, but public faith in the idea of fair competition itself? The Modi government prides itself on ensuring that every ordinary Indian gets a level playing field. It must now ask itself whether it is living up to that commitment made to the people.
