This pioneering project uses the temperature difference between warm surface water and cold deep sea water to generate clean electricity and convert seawater into fresh drinking water for island communities. The system will provide continuous renewable energy while producing potable water, reducing dependence on diesel and strengthening energy & water security for the islands. Once operational, India will join a small group of nations experimenting with OTEC technology, positioning the country at the forefront of ocean based renewable energy solutions.
